I agree with Rich scourgeous that's a great set of photos - and you've got people around you too!!! My OH has taken photos at both the races I've been in and there's a distinct lack of other people in them - probably because I'm so slow that most people have already finished :rotfl: It is fun overtaking people though isn't it????
I've been out for my test run and took it nice and easy - 6.35 miles 01:06:01 (10:23/mile). No wheezing, breathlessness or coughing but I did find it quite hard on my legs after mile 5. Not sure if that was because of the heat though - it was verrrrry hot!!!
I've got a rest day tomorrow before a scheduled 10 miler on Sunday. I think I might get up and go out early for this one - I left it until 10.00 this morning and it was just a bit too warm for me.
Do any of you wear hats/caps when it's hot and sunny??? I can't decide whether I will feel hotter with headgear because it's trapping the heat in or cooler because it's keeping the sun off?2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
simplycynical - nice pics! You look like you could run another 10k on that
KYCU - congrats on the distance - and Rich's advice on the distance/pace thing is what I'm aiming towards at the minute. Seems to be working though the heat is throwing spanners in the works this week
scorgeous - also very nice pics!
Another run today. Lunchtime running might be convenient in February (for example) but's killing with the heat this weekI've even made efforts to keep properly hydrated before and after and taking water with me but I can really feel it when I'm out there. Anyway:
Fri: 5.7 miles (10.33 pace)
Total so far this week with long run to come (Sunday): 17.1 miles
Maybe if I acclimatise to this heat my evening "see how its going and get some experience" races, and autumn half will feel so much easier...?!
Edit: Just seen simply's post - I'm interested in the headgear question too - saw a fancy looking hat thing in the New Balance shop which was more like wicking fabric than the usual cotton caps (sorry no idea of model name or price) so that might be an option too? I'm also thinking a v. early Sunday start given the current forecast!0 -
Hi all. Great weather today. It made cycling to work a dream this morning even if i sweated litres of water in the process
Rich/Becky, I'm going to have to pull out of the Fleetwood marathon as I was reminded last night that my running club ladies are socialising that Saturday night. I'm now having to look elsewhere and the Eden Project caught my eye even though its a hilly course and is in the 'cold weather' period which I hate.
Worth a challenge anyone think?
Training could be interesting, although I'm assured Crystal Palace has some steep inclines I could use . Plus I've wanted to visit the Eden Project for a while so I'd tick two boxes at least.
@Simply/krider - I think it's a good idea to wear some kind of covering in the heat. Although the only time I've ever used one was in Jamaica, but that temperature was the 'fry eggs and half a chicken on pavement' kind of heat which London never gets. Bring liquids with you and, maybe, running slower will help too.The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -

What gorgeous weather! 26 degrees with a light breeze - superb running weather.:D:D
Very pleased with that run and very, very surprised that there was no hint of last night's session in the legs - encouraging is an understatement!:D
So now to see how they perform in tomorrow morning's race......
Poorbabe - its a shame you can't make Fleetwood but I can understand the lure of Guinness and the prospect of a slightly more glamorous marathon somewhere else might be more appealling!:p
Simply - It sounds like you've beaten the bug now so should be okay to get on with things as normal.
Krider - very brave taking on the midday heat but its great conditioning weather.
KMS - Good luck on Sunday in Edinburgh.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi all
I'm not a regular runner but would like to join to see if I can stay motivated.
I train in fits and starts, some weeks go out 3/4 times a week (only about 3/4 miles at a time tho) - then nothing for weeks.
I love to run early mornings - especially weekends when it's quiet, but sometimes work stops that, so it's easy to get out of the habit.
Anyway, I trained for the Manchester 10k 2 weeks ago, but was gutted to come down with flu and couldn't take part.
I reckon I could have done 57/58mins.
Haven't been out for 2 weeks now, but I'm thinking of entering the Jane Tomlinson 10k on 21st June as I need a goal to get me out of bed...
I'm certainly not as serious as some of you guys (or as fast!), and don't look like a runner, but can comfortably do 6 miles and would love to join you to help stay motivated!
Thanks, Mac0 -

Got halfway round then changed to a new route on the spur of the moment. Ended up running 5.7 miles, but it took me 54 minutes! Guess my body hasn't rested as quick as my mind!
Felt good to get pounding the pavements again thouand with my laces a little looser I had no problems with my foot

Hmmm, I'm not so sure Rich; I've been feeling flushed this evening and have a bit of a headache. Trouble is I'm not sure if it's the remnants of the virus or if I caught the sun - it feels a bit like sunstroke only milder (if that makes sense). That's why I was asking about headgear in my earlier post - I tried keeping in the shade as much as I could but wasn't able to keep out of the sun that much.
Omg, I feel like such a wimp when I look at the times and distances that you and Uk managed today in the same conditions.
Hello and welcome to the thread macgirl :j I'm not usually such a misery honestly, we're a cheerful lot around here - it's the endorphins I think.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910
