KYCU - well done on that achievement. If you run your furthest ever distance at any time that in itself is taking the body into new territory so you will be stronger as a result and should find it relatively more comfortable the next time you attempt it.
As you say a gentle easing up of the mileage and consistency are exactly what you need to keep progressing nicely.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

They are the first 'real' sunglasses I have had in many years my others have always been the coloured lens rubbish where as these look like sunglasses and they are polarised and everything. GF is buying me a 405 for my birthday next month so I will be able to be really adventurous then. Although I got to the point i couldnt run any further i actually enjoyed the run.

Yup I dont intend to jump up distances to quick like when i went from 5k to 10k in a week :rotfl:To run 10k or half marathons how many miles a week do i need to run and how far in each session? (obviously i will take it as a rough gestimate as i know everyones different):staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0 -

The first aim with any new distance is to conquer the distance so that you get to the point of having no doubts about running that far. Once that is achieved the next step is to start thinking about speed, but initially distance should be your only concern.
Very basically, use one session a week as your long run (which you probably do anyway) and increase the length of that run every 2 weeks, dropping back every other week. A pattern something like......6,7,6,8,6,9,7,10,8,11,9,12,10,13,11,14,12,15,13 etc is the most efficient way of teasing extra distance out of your legs.
The rest of the week should be made up of shorter runs but with a minimum distance of 4 miles. The pace is unimportant as the main purpose is to increase the size and capacity of the muscles...this is done through consistent steady miles.
There is no 'perfect' schedule - just keep focussed on the purpose of each run and dont make the common mistake of trying to run too fast which results in plateauing very early.
Good luck.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

That's what my OH got me for my b'day a few weeks ago KYCU; I'm having fun with it but am definitely not using it to it's full potential yet. The data and graphs are brill tho.
I'm just off to try out my legs - have rested since Sunday so hope that this virus is well and truly out of my system. Wish me luck2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

I've finally got round to downloading the photos that my OH took at the Netley 10K (I know, I'm slow) so thought that I would post a couple and share the scenery with you - I'm no. 497 by the way.
Lovely sea views at the finish!!!

Embarrased? Why?
Thats a good set of pictures showing that you definitely had a kick left at the end.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

There's a couple of them where I look like a little round munchkin
I have to admit I did actually speed up at the end. I don't know what made me do it, but I felt great passing people, it really gave me a boost. Sad I knowToo much month, not enough Cash!

Scorgeous that the best bit about entering races when you have more lest in the tank then others around gives you such a good boost to make those tired legs go fast.
Well don on your race.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
Copied from my fetch blog (kstuart for those who go there) this is the 'plan' for sunday
Edinburgh Marathon target time pondering
Hmm as i still havn't definitivly picked a time to go for i thought i'd cheat and work out a range of times with various signnificances that i would like to target.
Should do them in some form of order i suppose but first
My current Fetch ranking is 64.31% 4:13:12 9:40 pace 2189th
4:45 Nice easy get round time
4:30 Nice simple but requiring some effort get round time
4:20 just under 10 min miling
4:15 tantalsingly close to current PB - THis wont be happening i hope
4:13:11 New PB by a second
4:10 A good improvement although i could do better
4:06:56 the 60% mark on the fetch marathon rankings currently
4:05:09 would get me 2000th spot on the fetch rankings curently
4:05 what i stuck down for race prediction as well as on the entry
4:00:31 fetch predicted time based off of my 10k WAVA
3:59:59 sub 4 but not quite fast enough to pip CY
3:59:32 is Canary Yellow's time - For the sake of bnoth of us i had best not equal it
3:59:31 faster than CY
3:55 sub 9 pace
3:30 longer term goal which wont be happening any time soon
My guess is somewhere between current PB and 4 hours, probably 4:05ish but we'll see in 48 hours time. Probably start of around 9 min miling and see how it goes. Being its traffic free i might sort out a uplifting playlist for the Ipod to help.
Annoying thing is none of my current PB's are as accurate as they should be as i know i am capable of faster on all the classic distances.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)
