I do love museums, but my fav so far was definitely the London Museum with the Poly Trophy:0 -
Have they not given it back to its rightful owners yet?

Just been having a look at the Race For Life website.
These races deserve lots of support because they are a prime example of a charity going to the effort of organising its own events and stating excatly the nature of the event and its aims.
They are clearly labelled as non-competitive, non UK Athletics events so everyone is clear about what they are entering (although that doesn't seem to stop a lot of people using them as competitive events).
What I do find intriguing though is how an event can have the following rules from a legal standpoint:
Race for Life rules
General
1. Race for Life is a women-only event. Cancer Research UK has the right to ask male participants to withdraw from the event.
.
.
.
10. Only registered participants are eligible to take part in Race for Life. Adults and children over five must all be registered by paying the entry fee. Children aged five and over must be female and do have to be registered.
And this is their response under the FAQs:
Why is Race for Life for women only? Race for Life is the only women-only event of its type organised by Cancer Research UK. We restrict entry to women due to the wishes of our participants. It is one of our most successful events because it is a unique opportunity for women to come together in a non-competitive and celebratory atmosphere.
There is no ifs and buts or any sort of pretense about the fact that this is direct discrimination against men. Men are not welcome. But why? Why is it not enough to state the nature of the event and see who enters?
Apart from the obvious reason that nobody can be bothered challenging it does anyone with a legal brain know how they can do this when every facet of everyday life seems to be pored over for perceived injustices?
Can you imagine the fuss that would have been created if an identical 'men only' event had been organised instead of this?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

what about the "keep your eye on the ball runs"
i aint read the ins and out but im sure thats for us dudes only??Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -
I've no idea what they are, but I can imagine that, as a logical response to the question being asked on numerous occassions a similar men-only event would be organised. However, 2 wrongs dont make a right so why are events restricted on gender lines when there is no physical/other reason for doing so?
But there's not much that can be said about that since the RFLs are already established as women-only events. What I was saying is imagine the fuss if a men-only event had been set up instead of the RFLs.
Why is 'women only' accepted by men with a shrug of the shoulders but 'men only' creates such a stir amongst women?
This is not really a running issue (as quite frankly I couldn't care less on that front) but more of an intriguing legal question. Is there some sort of exemption to sexual discrimination laws and, if so, why?:rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

perhaps the idea was to attract people who dont do running.....who might not feel comfortable about their bodies/fitness and want to run together without men??? dont want to speak for the organisers / participants but it seems to bill itself as a coming together celebration and less about the running.... i personally dont mind and dont feel i need men only events....Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Hello :hello:
Made it back from the Lakes with a 40 mile week (fell walking not running) and minimal spend in the New Balance shop
Apologies, I've not caught up on the thread yet - barely caught up on life and work - just wanted to say Hi and report the runs this week (so far). I'll read back now.
Sun - 8.5 miles at 10.46 pace (was intended to be slightly longer but the heat even in the morning was horrendous, especially after windy tops/ridges)
Tue - 5.31 miles at 9.53 pace
Thur - 6.12 miles at 9.56 pace
Was really fed up after Sundays run but realised even after a high mileage week and the temperature, it was only what I was doing all my runs at a few weeks back anyway. Consequently much happier with Tue/Thur but I have resorted to taking a drink out for anything over 30 mins now because it just seems so warm/humid which was having a bad affect.
Hope everyone is doing well in training/races.0 -

As Krider says it has become very warm and humid and, together with the midges at this time of evening, high speed interval sessions are something of a challenge!
Nonetheless, tonight's session went well although 40x200m takes forever being a full 2 hour session taking into account warm ups/downs. The pace was a bit quicker than expected and felt fairly comfortable but I do suspect that there may be a little stiffness tomorrow!:p
