Omg, I feel like such a wimp when I look at the times and distances that you and Uk managed today in the same conditions. :o

:rotfl:... but 7pm is not mid day :D... was a nice cooling breeze when i was out ;). no where near as muggy as last night was... it was horrid.

    Hi all

I'm not a regular runner but would like to join to see if I can stay motivated.
I train in fits and starts, some weeks go out 3/4 times a week (only about 3/4 miles at a time tho) - then nothing for weeks :o.

I love to run early mornings - especially weekends when it's quiet, but sometimes work stops that, so it's easy to get out of the habit.

Anyway, I trained for the Manchester 10k 2 weeks ago, but was gutted to come down with flu and couldn't take part.
    I reckon I could have done 57/58mins.
Haven't been out for 2 weeks now, but I'm thinking of entering the Jane Tomlinson 10k on 21st June as I need a goal to get me out of bed...

I'm certainly not as serious as some of you guys (or as fast!), and don't look like a runner, but can comfortably do 6 miles and would love to join you to help stay motivated!

    Thanks, Mac

There are a few of us doing the Leeds 10k so come along...

I've finally got round to downloading the photos that my OH took at the Netley 10K (I know, I'm slow) so thought that I would post a couple and share the scenery with you - I'm no. 497 by the way.

Lovely sea views at the finish!!!

Thanks sammy; the sunglasses are Oakleys and were a naughty impulse buy. I've worn them loads though so am getting my monies worth.

They are so comfortable for running in as they don't move at all - you should have seen me bouncing around in the shop checking how much movement there was :rotfl::rotfl:

Well done on another 50 mile week (or near enough), UK ..... you'll find intervals easier to tackle when your mileage has been stable for a few weeks. At the moment you're still bedding down the volume of the workload, very well I might add but its difficult to take on too many new stresses simultaneously. I was struggling with the intervals in the last build up due to the mileage but this time around they are much easier to cope with!:D

Simply - It just sounds like you need plenty water tbh. Last Sunday during the 20.75 miler I drank the usual 500ml during the run, which felt fine, but I drank another 2.5 litres during the evening with no need to go to the loo until the next day. So that is the major difference during hot weather...more drinking, but not necessarily during the runs more afterwards!

And although this weather can often feel like hard work it rarely affects race times or interval times so performance isn't really affected - its just that dehydration effect afterwards.

I've never used headgear of any sort so cant really comment on the pros and cons.

Raphael - Thats good going just 5 days after your first race. Your body is still trying to work out what you did to it!:p

Mac - Welcome along. Sub 1hr 10K is a pretty good base to build from. As UK says...looks like a runner to me!:D

  • Simplycynical : my glasses are oakleys too and i got 20% off for handing in an old pair of glasses and they are blinkin great they are expensive but i expect them to last at least 3 years I havent run in them yet because it was to hot for me yesterday so the gf and I walked up the pike which takes an hour (its the top of rivington).
I would have thought wearing headgear was a bad idea in heat unless your bald/balding:rotfl:as hats are designed to keep the heat in mainly

I am a bit confused about all this short/long run stuff how short should you keep your short runs? I know it should be a minimum of 4 miles does that mean it should be 5 or 6 even ?
