Morning all, managed to get out last night for my first run for 3 weeks and boy it hurt, i only did 5km 30.55 but after 25 mins i got really bad shakes in front thighs had to drop right off the pace just to get them to stop. It was a horrible experience but hopefully as if got the first one out of the way then it shouldnt happen again.
The OH managed to get up to 22mins constent running covering 3km so she will be soon catching me up.!!Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
Ooopps I overslept and missed my run this morning but I did sleep for 10 hours and I feel good
(I'm going to go out tonight anyway - and looking at it Rich we probably can do the parkrun tomorrow if you want??)0 -
That makes two of us - I overslept and missed the planned run this morning!:p
I refuse to set alarms though, unless I really have to, because if the body wants to sleep there's probably a good reason.
Is there bad weather predicted tomorrow then?:oGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well done on getting out, JJ.
No idea what the shaking thigh thing is though - sounds almost like some sort of muscle spasm. Probably will just sort itself out with a couple of easy runs to get you back into it!:D
Keep it going, JP, just keep adding a little distance when you feel comfortable and then once you reach 6-7k the improvements really kick in.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Want to join you guys in the Parkrun now! Knee feels fine, but I know I should probably rest it anyway (and maybe get a long walk in instead).Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0

Hello everyone,
I wondered if I could join this thread?
I went for my first jog on Wednesday night and am planning on going again tonight. :j
A bit of background - I used to enjoy cross country at school, but I am quite unfit now. OH and I have a greyhound (the lovely Meg) and I take her out walking every day which is good, but i have never really run during my adult life (I'm 29 in July). Some friends of ours do a lot of running and have done marathons etc and its all quite comptetitive, which is really not me. I used to enjoy going to the gym, but finances prevent that now so i haven't been regularly for a while.
Some stress at work led to me thinking, 'well why not just do it?', so I alternated walking and jogging round 'the moor' (the park at the end of my road). I was very proud of myself, as I've always had a bit of a mental block about running, thinking I couldn't do it / didn't want to be comptetitive cos I'd only fail / it would kill me  etc.....
Its 1 mile round the moor, so I dodn't do much, but it was enough. One of my runner friends, Tim, advised me to just jog until i'd had enough, then walk a bit, then jog a bit etc, and not make it too hard, and it worked. :-)
I took the dog and put my ipod on really loud so i coulldn't hear myself breathing! :rotfl:
Anyway, if anyone has any tips for someone who is a first time runner I'd be really grateful. I think i need to start with just going again, and making it into a bit of a habit!
Sorry if I've rambled....
Thanks,
AliNot Buying It 20150
