    Many thanks Becky.

I was pleased with the time. Just planned to run for an hour and then see how far it was afterwards so was surprised with the distance.

Had been keeping myself active with cycle machine/trampoline etc, whatever I could manage to do.

I'll be around more now pleased to say.

  • Well iv had a very different circuit training today. Was outside on the football field, running 400m laps. Was trying to make 2km in 9 mins i MANAGED 9.47 so i wasnt too far off the pace. Then a second go i got round in 9.57 so im over the moon to be be under 5 min kms which should mean that a 25min sub 5km is on the cards soo.
Not going out tonight as iv got an offical test in the morning so saving my muscles for that. Feeling good about the test so fingers crossed ill pass tomorrow.

Ooo JJ sub 25 5K - you'll be right on my heels :D

Hobsch - good we like it when you're around you pop in and post great times, no fuss, no ceremony its very good! Trampoling eh - I WANT A TRAMPOLINE!!! Sadly I have no garden (only my gated one and I doubt the management committee would let me have one somehow :()

Dont be disappointed Alias - 3 miles is a good run and if nothing else it keeps your body ticking over - I had to slow my pace by 1:30 a mile in order to be able to increase my distances and speed work recently - relax and progress will come :D

Sorry you're still injured Ukevas - it doesnt sound much fun :(, hope the docs has good news for you tomorrow!
  • Afternoon all!

Well went for Personal Training. 3 lots of circuits on weights, and some intervals on the bike as my heels were still sore! My thighs are killing today, suppose it shows I've pushed myself at least.

Netball training tonight, can't wait til my rest day tomorrow!

JJ - The answer to your query is to concentrate on increasing distance and/or number of runs. You can increase your fitness so much through easy runs without exposing your body to damaging stresses. Your pace will improve naturally anyway as the increased strength lengthens your stride.

Oh, and can you please beat 24:38 for 5K please?:p

Hobsch - That is positive news. As you know, after any lay off you want to know what the new baseline is, ie how far you've fallen back. To go straight out and do nearly 7 miles must be quite a relief?

Ukevas - I feel your frustration, hope you get some good news tomorrow!

HAHAHA even if JJ did beat 24.38 that would be fine - I'm a girl so I should be slower than him:
    Mens world record - 12:37.35
    Women's - 14:11.15

Which a difference of over a minute - so by rights he should be a minute faster to be at my standard ;)

In all seriousness though dont you think its interesting how far apart those two times are especially considering the women's was set last year and the mens in 2004??

Wow Bex that sounds tough - I feel tired just reading it :p

Indeed that killing feeling is DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness - they're not exactly sure what the cause is but its generally though to appear 2 days after exercise where you've broken down the muscle and its repairing...

You can read more here (if you're interested):

    Hope netball went well :D

I've mapped out a 4.28 miler which I'm going to attempt later on this morning, not sure how far I'll get, but I'm going to give it a shot :)

*puffs & pants* well I did it! Apart from stopping for 1 minute to take off my sweat-top and pull up a errant sock, I ran the entire route :) managed a time of 44.06

My OH bought me a pair of running trainers today while we were in town (early valentines present) suppose I'll have to break them in now :D

Ukevas, sorry about the injury. I used to hate exercise, now I get twitchy if I can't get to the gym. I hurt my ankle a while back and I was going out of my mind just having to sit there and rest it. :( hope the docs can sort it for you.

Just having a look at the women's world record compared to men's at different distances gives:

    800m +11.88%
    1 Mile +13.00%
    5K +12.42%
    10K +12.33%
    1/2 Marathon +13.79%
    Marathon +9.19%

So the thing that stands out from those stats is not the 5K gap, but just how good Paula's marathon time is!!:D
