Hi everyone, I'm back from my Christmas/New Year break and (almost) raring to go. Strictly speaking I've been back almost 2 weeks, but it took me a week to get back into the swing of things, plus I had a stinking cold on top of that so only went out once last week and used the lousy weather as a reason to stay close to the heating the rest of the time.
I had planned to head out on Sunday but the morning rain convinced me to change plans , so I went out lunchtime today for a 20 min run. I'm back at run club (track) tomorrow and aim to cycle to/from work as well. I'll stop there just in case my plans get thrown off track , but I am aiming to do hills on Thursday also.
At the moment I've go no races planned for the year but I'm looking to do a marathon in September/October plus a half marathon and the club races. I figure I should keep the marathon momentum going now that I've started . I've also decided that until I've signed up for a non-club race I will leave my Garmin at home for my Sunday runs, that way I'll just enjoy running with no pressure.
I look forward to keeping up with everyone's running during the year as that will help keep me on the right path and give me a boost if I feel myself flagging :TThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Hello Poor - we've been missing you
Great to have you back! Good to see you're getting back into the swing of things gently - especially since you had an injury after the marathon.
Any ideas of which one you want to do?? A cold one this time perhaps??0 -
hi, ive just done a quick flick through the posts on here and would like to venture in. Ive been persuaded by friends at work to sign up for a 10k race in May! The downside is i havent run for years and at the moment do not have any trainers (which could be useful) but i have decided to get good quality ones. I do have a friend who regularly runs and will help me with the training but may need extra support:beer:0

Hi Hayleygrey and welcome
Rich's advice on buying trainers was on the old thread - drat we need a running club sticky...but basically I think the gist was - get any pair you want but buy good insoles (sorbathane) - I've just spent £20 on a pair and I run 50 miles a week at the moment, very mse of me!
Hope you enjoy the training - take it easy for the first few weeks and you'll be begging to come back for more0 -
i hope so, i noticed in one of richs threads that he mentioned St Albans, thats where im doing my run!
im hoping that having a dog which needs a lot of walking will help more too cos she always needs exercise:beer:0 -
Becky, i have a link somewhere from runners world and there was an online shop that had info about trainers, which said to take into consideration what sort of feet you had, ie high arched, normal or flat and buy shoes according to that as it makes a difference to the running!??:beer:0

Tonight i was in tesco, and bought a cheap heart rate monitor watch, came with a strap for the chest. It had no instructions, so was reduced from £19.99 to £9.99 as the box was a little mangled, and no paperwork.
Here is the HRM - One Body Heart Rate Monitor
So, here we are with the wife sitting next to me with the HRM strap on her, and the watch on her arm. It works as all other ways, stopwatch & timers, but the HRM thing doesnt read. Going to reset the batteries in the min in the strap..
Do they all need a strap across the chest to work out HRM, also anyone know how to work one of these, as it has no paperwork.0 -
Well, I'm not quite running yet but I did my first 40min walk today and feel good for it - considering its the first time since my illness and injury I'm proud of myself!:hello:  Hoping to be down to Loan Only by Christmas:j Getting there! :T0

Thanks, hmm depends which one we;re talking about, re-injured my knee doing kickboxing and had to stop pretty much everything for a while and then had mystery stomach pains that had me hospitalised so I was again told not to do anything too strenuous (everything according to docs) until they had sussed it - they never did! Lol! What run are you aiming to do?:hello:  Hoping to be down to Loan Only by Christmas:j Getting there! :T0
