Thanks guys! :T
The Great Sheffield Run is on 6th September this year, so almost exactly 4 months away, is this unrealistic??? Obviously I would look to do something else inbetween, the run in Bramhall Park looks good and is dead close to where one of my mates lives, I could rope him in as well LOL! And of course there is the Race for Life that I could do...
Back to the Great Sheffield Run, I have looked at the course, and its relatively flat for Sheffield, going out of the city centre on the ring road - hmmmmm scratchy chin moment as I ponder!

Yeah the great sheffield / yorkshire run is just from city center to wednesday ground ( no spiting as you go past ) then back into town... its just the last few meters are uphill so save a litttle for that
.
and no nothing is unrealistic
just with it being a "great" insert name of run can be a bit over priced but its well organised.Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -
Thats cool Blade - 4 months is fine to train for a 10k and you'll have the 5ks as a guide as you go along
Oooo I've got a real itch to race this Sunday - Rich do you fancy this - £15 entry on the day (the half of course), 20 minutes away by train

But I really fancy a crack at 1:50 and I wont get another chance for a while as I'm off to B'ham then Vienna for work at the end of the month for 2 weekends0 -
2 weeks after the marathon sure the legs will be in tip top condition...oooo exciting and I am sure you can persuade Mr Rich to do itI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

As for breakfast, how much do you normally eat that it would require two sittings?
Personally, I have a bowl of muesli and some orange juice first thing, then am set to run any time from around 90 mins later - any sooner and I'll get stitch / heartburn / indigestion / other grown up complaints I don't understand...
Breakfast - usually 2 weetabix, I figured I could break this into 2 'meals' - one at 7.15 and the other when I got back from a run. If I am hungry I'll nibble on the bad stuff but I do not think I can run while starving from the night before.
I am following the WW plan and muslei & OJ are quite high in points so I do not have these, usually weetabix or cornflakes.
40 minutes+ - I can do that at the gym. Just have to think about getting better now!!0 -
Blue_monkey - you'll burn more fat if you go before eating - its ones of the reasons I managed to lose so much weight since I started (about 2 stones in total)
, but if you cant its definitely best to wait about 40mins before going out
Muesli is a great pre running food though but wetabix or porridge should be good too0 -

Unfortunately my condition is not going to be something running is going to get rid of (I *think* this is what AM might have been suggesting - apologies if that is wrong), this is a life condition for me and I've had it for 29 years now and have doe long distance running before but I am starting again, however it means I've got to build up carefully and not exert myself too much. The last thing I want to do is have an attack while out and get into trouble.
Blue Monkey, I'm in a similar situation - something I've had for a similar timespan too! I always take my inhaler before starting out on a run which seems to help me, otherwise in a variety of weather conditions it all just seems to tighten up even doing warm up slow speeds. A benefit I've found (3 months on now) is that I seem to have a breathing routine/pattern whilst running which seems to work for me as random gasping tends to help a stitch form even without eating too close to a run. Regular breathing with steps varying the depth of breath as to the effort is the sort of thing. Might help you...
I did a nice 5 miler at lunchtime with some inclines. Down here in the south I hesitate to call them hills as I have lived much further northI tried a few very short stretches of slightly faster pace in the 3rd mile (varying 0.5mph I think) which didn't feel to bad. Didn't do too much so as not to overdo it whilst building some miles up. Thanks for the advice yesterday on this.
