mmmmm, my motivation for doing it in the first place.....to lose weight.....

sammy, the weight loss increases with milage (obviously). Did you notice your clothes fitting better? Often, runners lose fat, but also gain muscle, which is much denser and weighs more. So even if the scales stay the same, you may be losing body fat, which is that "actual" aim!

Ah, well that won't work :D There is a point when you should start eating more, carb loading etc. but it's not just after starting out running ;). I started running while keeping the diet the same, so the pounds fell off, unsurprisingly. Saying that, as long as the extra calories you eat are slightly less then the extra calories you burn through running, you will lose weight. Slowly!

Sammy I did exactly the same as you, unintentional of course!! Although I have def changed shape as before running if I were the weight I am now, none of my trousers would do up but now they are slightly baggy. My aim in the next 6 weeks is def loose half a stone and get sub 60 10K...doable I think :)
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Sally, well as you know I have lost a few pounds now...but have come off the CD as I only have about half a stone to lose and am finding it difficult to continue...I have changed my eating habits though and I now see where I was deluding myself with my eating.

I have found food focus has really helped too - I really would like to be the fit toned athlete I know is inside me somewhere...

    just did my 10k run.
    it all went wrong.

i just felt heavy all the way round. (which I am.....:o)

i drank a fair amount before setting off, but i was thirsty and knackered at half way. i normally dont run with water but i am going to have to.
i stopped at about 6.5k and just couldnt get going again.

managed to finish but i was planning to go a nice route up to 12k if i was feeling ok but just got 10k in. about

also it was really blowing the wind and it was in my face for first 5k but does it make that much difference

i think i need to up my water intake and put this one down to experience.
i am determined to run in to work tomorrow and see how that goes.

    :beer:make mine a water please.....

Well that was interesting...never run with jet lag before and set off feeling great but eased into it with a nice 12 minute mile warm up, then pushed a bit for 4 miles, then the wind just knocked out of me...struggled round another mile or so and gave up to walk the last mile home - still ran for 60 minutes in all and got round 6 miles so nothing wrong just tiredness catching up with me :D

Will go out again tomorrow and see what happens after that :D

Legs felt soooo strong though in those 4 miles - got round them in 9 minute miles and wasnt even out of breath, so if tomorrow goes well I'll do some nice bulk interval reps on Thursday :D

    Hi

Just coming in from lurking for some time, I am Rachel and my partner is Nick, we are both in our early 30's, have fallen in the trap of being lazy and have today both completed our first run of just over a mile without stopping :j seems so small compared to what some of you do, but for me especially this is hugely significant as I detested PE at school, particularly running, but have really enjoyed myself :D Looked a hideous shade of blotchy pink when I got in, but running was never going to be glamourous!

I ran with our dog Sam attached to a running harness and belt, and whilst this won't be something I will do every time, he loved it as well, he's flaked out on the hall tiles as I type.

Our aim is to run a 5k sometime over the summer, really need to find soemthing to work towards, we are following a day run, day rest plan building up distance week on week, does this seem sensible?? Anyone know of any 5k's in Sheffield or surrounding area other than Race for Life??

Any advice or encouragement gratefully received :D

    Rachel

    Hi Blade,
Well done to you and your partner on your first mile run :D

Re: 5ks there's a free 5k in Sheffield every Saturday (I know its an hour away but might be worth it a few times):

There's also one held in Leeds if that's closer??

Theres a lot of racing that goes on in Yorkshire so I'm sure you can find something localish - Rich might know ;)
