Rich - it was certainly a lot easier than my first 4 miler - in fact it was easier than any other run I've done this week. It just felt 'right' if that makes sense??

It makes total sense - you relax on long runs and relax into your 'natural flow'. Every now and again it feels spot on and effortless. I do believe that you're starting to get the bug!;)

There's quite a buzz from getting your first 'double figure' run under your belt! 10 miles is a hell of a long way in normal life!:D

I will kill runchum.....she did it last year and said it was a great half!!!!

PB:rotfl:errrr I will just be looking to run it.....will be my first half...(and maybe my last:D)

If it is your first half marathon, you will get a PB anyway, regardless of the time taken!!

I reckon it is best to have a tough one with a good reason for a slower time for your first race - then when you do the next race on a more "friendly" course, you will knock minutes off your time which will be a great motivator to continue!!

Hypno - You should be delighted with that. If you ran the same race next week it would be quicker as the marathon unwinds, but nonetheless 28:46 means that you've certainly got it in you to hit the 27min 5k, 56min 10K, 2hour 1/2 marathon targets in the next few weeks. Well done.

Yes, all things considered, I am very happy with that - It has given me the confidence to continue, as much as anything else........if I had come home in 32 or 33 mins, I would have been disappointed, despite knowing that I am still recovering from a marathon, and would have been more likely to let the running "drift" for a little while!

My next stab at a race is the first of three midweek 5ks on 27th May.....with the first 10k of the series the following week.

Sammy, its a stiff test but its all relative.

I think Becky was looking more at the course for the marathon, which is tougher. The 1/2 marathon, with a winning time of 1hr 05 mins albeit by one of the whippet like Kenyans:p, may have hills but they'll be manageable. On the flip side, there were 4 people took over 5 hours...for a 1/2 marathon!:eek:

I think maybe I need to find out the definition of a 'hill' in the running world. I live at the top of a hill and wherever I run I have to do what I consider 'hills', but I am a bit worried that when someone says a course is hilly that my version of a hill might also just be a speed bump!!

I am almost scared to go back to doing a 5k, I find the first 20 mins of running 'hard work'. Although someone once told me that you should run 5k to warm up for a 5k:eek:

Hehe You'll be in big trouble now.

She said she wanted to kill me last week part way through the marathon because I'd told her there were no hills in the London Marathon.

Maybe they'd borrowed a couple of hills from the Himalayas for the day?;)

    At least 5K warm up!

I agree - it was very hard work. I never seemed to get into a settled running pattern........And there was nowhere to jog as a warm up, instead we had to do the group aerobics warm up, which wasn't really what I wanted to do......

This was my first 5k though since I started running in September, so it is good to have a proper time as a starting point.

So, my range is thus so far:

    5k - 28.46
    10k - 60.26 (I think)
    1/2 marathon - 2 hrs 21
    marathon - 5 hrs 13

Hopefully, we will see some of those times coming down over the next few months!

I wanted to kill you too at one or two points along the way - you said you would take over at 20 miles and run the last 6 for me......I looked for you to hand over my number but you were nowhere to be seen.

Some people just can't be relied on......
