Thanks Rich, I went out for a run yesterday evening and did exactly 5 miles in exactly 45 minutes. That included a section of steep uphill so I haven't completely lost it! The back is now feeling much better (touch wood) and so I can't really see that I have any excuses for not finishing at least. Exactly one week from now I will hopefully be at about the 18 mile mark!

We leave on Friday morning, so it would be good to have got the expo/registration thing done on Friday, to leave us the whole of Saturday to chill out and drink beer.
What would you recommend I do for the final week? Keep the mileage low but get out three or four times?

I have to say, I feel much calmer this time than in the run-up to any other marathon I have done before. Tbh there is so much other stuff going on at the moment, the race is about no 3 on my list of things to worry about. Way behind wedding preps and a really busy and stressful period at work.

OH has just finalised our honeymoon plans. We are off to Scotland (Loch Linnhe) then on to Skye and the Hebrides. With all that countryside and long, secluded beaches, we'll definitely be getting in some running whilst we are there. Can't wait!

There you go - if you get the miles in during the winter months you can afford to lose a bit of training nearer to the races and still feel good!:D

At the 18 mile mark you'll be either thinking 'Just 8 miles to go, lets go for it' or 'Oh gawd, there's still 8 miles to go'. I'm sure it will be the former with the long runs you have under your belt and the steady start you'll be sensibly adopting.;)

    Beer???? Hmmmm.:p

Yep, in the final week you're not training as such but need to keep the blood flowing around the muscles. So 2-3 miles on as many days as you can at low effort should do the trick!:D

It will probably work in your favour not having it as the main thing to worry about. Going to the start line chilled sounds good. Although by the sounds of your plans there may be a hangover to deal with too!:p:p

Scottish honeymoon sounds good - hope you get suitable weather to make the most of it!:D

Yes I think I'll be relying on the long build-up for this race. I looked in my diary and I was up to 15 miles on the first weekend in January so I can't say I haven't done enough long runs can I? I'll just see how it goes, start nice and controlled, and dig deep for those last few miles. The Prague race is combined with the music weekend, so there are lots of music points around the course. I'll look on it as an on-foot sightseeing trip around Prague, with lots of companions and musical accompaniment. :D.

There really is a pasta and beer party on the Saturday night! Don't worry Rich, I'll not get too drunk ;). There is also another beer party after the race so I'll save myself for that one. :p (They do like their beer over there don't they?)

tell you what she wasn't hanging around and was determined to overtake people. Funny thing was all these very "large" ladies huffing and puffing getting around and DD was whizzing past them.
