Hi all...well here I am at the end of my first week running on the road IN MY LIFE!!!! I have been running at the gym for last 6 months or so but road running s very different.

Today i managed a total of 2.8miles/4.5k. Longest stretch without a breather was 1.5miles and the last bit before I walked for my cool down so am pleased with myself!

Ok so not up to the fantastic miles some fo you do but for a person carrying a few extra pounds and being new to it I am feeling like i have achieved a lot!

As i am training for the RFL I had better keep quiet or people sponsorig me wont think 5k on the day is an achievement!!!!

Sorry but proud Mummy moment...DD ran the whole mile couldn't quite believe it and then she came 1st in her age category and got a medal! Hope she gets the running bug now!

Oooh, sally that's lovely; she must be soooo proud of that medal :T:T

I'm pleased to report that the remnants of the virus have finally gone and, for the first time this week, I really enjoyed my run. My legs felt stronger and had much more bounce in them. :j I'm not sure that I ran the correct route around the Country Park for the 10k but I enjoyed running round exploring different areas - along by the sea, through a bluebell wood and I found some nice shady trails. Lovely!!!!

Best of all I ran 10 MILES (Sorry, I didn't mean to shout) 01:48:24 (10:44/mile)- I'm very happy with that. :D:D

Well done squirrel; I switched from the treadmill to running outside at the beginning of March. It was a bit strange at first but I soon got used to it and now enjoy it much more - there is always something different to see and new places to explore.

Becky - Thanks for agreeing to amend my plan; I'll email you when you are back. Can't believe that you are on the last day of your holiday already.

Well we fly out tomorrow but at 8am so its our last full day today :D

We went out yesterday to the natural history museum, planetarium, a Kentucky Derby party, then to the flatiron building then to a rooftop bar by the empire state, then for a bit of late night shopping and then managed to get an express subway and ended up in Harlem and had to come back the other way...then some late night snacking - wow cant believe we did soo much :D

Wow no wonder you haven't managed to fit in any running; that is some schedule. Hope your legs are holding out with all that sightseeing :rotfl:

Hi Becky, thanks. It looks like you are having a fab time in NY. Enjoy the rest of your stay. The roads will still be there when you get back, just waiting for you to run on them again. Enjoy the rest! Rich will make sure you get back on with your training when you get back ;).

I'm really looking forward to Prague now. Got my wheely case out of the loft and bought some sunscreen yesterday. New shades too. Just hope I live up to my new 'cool' image!

I did the Robin Hood Marathon a few years ago. It was my slowest ever. The hills weren't too much bother, but the really boring second-half was the worst! I'm sure the '600m to go' sign was 2 miles out as well!! (But that could have been me, feeling like my legs were taking me backwards instead of forwards.)
