Hypno, you could always start one. Or convince some students on a sports science course that it would be great for their CVs to be involved in the organisation. (The Leeds parkrun is run entirely by students!)

The latest start up was last week at Great Yarmouth. The first race had just 10 runners, the second race yesterday had 20 runners - it soon gathers momentum.:D:D

    Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

Get in touch with parkrun and ask what they need. It has to be off normal roads, the Gt Yarmouth one is on the cliff tops, but the local authority usually get involved to help with their targets for participation in sports.

The £2,500 start up costs need to be funded by the local authority and/or the parkrun sponsors.

Just noticed that the first regular Parkrun participant in London last week did 2:33 and the second 2:41 - just goes to show that a weekly 5K race as a hard training run does you no harm!:D

Right, I am tied up with ski racing for the next two saturdays, but I will then go and do the Yarmouth parkrun the following week :D

It is a little scary - two loops of the cliffs - so that means a steep climb at some point!

Well, that solves my problem about not being able to find hills to train on too then!!

    :T:T:T

Get up there and support it - they need more runners to give it the critical mass that establishes these things as permanent!

It will be great for you too - you soon develop rivalries which are resumed each week!:D

I've currently got a ding-donger going with a guy called George at Leeds. I couldn't beat him for weeks on end and then finally beat him by 2 seconds. The next week he outsprinted me by 1 second. The last 2 outings I've held him off, despite fast finishes from him, by 2 seconds on both occassions.

With rivalries like that you cant rest on your laurels - it keeps you on your toes!:D:D:D

I will definitely go when I can - won't be every week because of the skiing but it is an area I know well (went to school there and lived nearby) so I am happy to head over and support it.
