    K-bagpuss.

The route doesn't really matter as long as you're enjoying it. Try to gradually eke out the distance bit by bit until you get it to over 4 miles - once there you will see progress starting to get easier.:D

Noooooo I wanted to do abingdon and stay in the nice hotel *Becky sulks*

Can you enter us for Fleetwood now please??

And can you check how Bristol half is doing for me please??

    Stop sulking, grumpy!:p:p

We're in Fleetwood :j:j. Five weeks less to train but thats fine - we know its flat and just a few hundred yards from my last marathon. And we get to say we ran in the 1st event!

And we know its the same organiser as Blackpool, Ron McAndrew, who clearly is someone whose heart is in keeping these events alive considering he had to subsidise the Blackpool event out of his own pocket.

I think Sally is entering Bristol, so we'll see how she gets on but I think its a much bigger limit at something like 6-7,000.

Rich/Becky - the New Forest Marathon is local to me, doesn't look too undulating and appears to still be taking entries. Only problem is that it's 3 weeks earlier than Abingdon.

Given that this will be my first Marathon attempt do you think that it would be realistic to adjust my training programme for 27 September or do you think that I would be better off leaving it until early 2010?

Yes, its certainly realistic....thats still something like 22/23 weeks, which is plenty with a well structured training plan.

So it really comes down to whether you're up for it, which you seem to be. If you're feeling ready for the challenge then you've got time.......:D:D

Btw I saw on the news today that the World Health Organisation are concerned that a dangerous cross between the swine flu virus and the avian flu virus might develop. Yeah right, and pigs might fly! Just to make sure I hadn't got it though I rang the helpline...but all I could hear was crackling! I finally got to speak to someone but he was a real bore, he did say though that as long as you haven't got any rashers you should be okay! If anyone tells you that their doctor has prescribed oinkment for swine flu then they're probably telling porkies!

I'm certainly up for the challenge and have been enjoying my running so far - even if I do complain about the hilly runs. :D

Obviously I'd have liked to have completed a few longer runs (longest is 9 miles so far) before parting with any money but these events seem to fill up so quickly I'm afraid that I'll miss out for this year if I don't get in soon.

I'll wait for my official rejection from Abindgon before entering New Forest but would you or Becky be willing to amend my training plan if needed please?

Last year there were 494 entries in the marathon and there is a 700 entry limit. That probably means it was actually full with the dropouts seen in other races.

There is a strict time limit of 5hrs 30mins for the marathon and 6hrs for the 1/2 marathon, which sounds odd but there is a good reason! But this will have the effect of putting some people off.

So far there have been approx 875 entries for 2009 for the marathon and 1/2 marathon combined (although no idea what the split is). The entry limits are 700/2300 respectively so it would appear that there is still a fair bit of time yet to get a marathon entry in!

Yep, no problem with the amended training plan - Becky will no doubt have a look at it when she gets back. I wouldn't want to step on her toes!:p

I was thinking about doing the 3 mile New Forest fun run if my brother can put me up for the night. Do you know how much it costs to enter?
