My muscles feel a bit better this evening, I just have this overwhelming sense of tiredness! Mind you, that is as much down to the student locking herself out of the house at 2.15am as having run 26 miles I think!!

Stairs are a little easier to navigate tonight, so I am hoping that a good nights sleep will have me fighting fit tomorrow!

As long as I have some energy for race for life on Sunday, I will be happy! I know it is only a week after doing FLM, but I would really like to get sub 30 mins for the 5k, to keep my motivation going as much as anything!

Just off to find a summer 10k series.........

Becky you don't do any

    Nor me!

The thinking on stretching has changed over the years and I'm absolutely convinced now that there is no point.

Put your kit on and get out of the door...your body will ease into it and let you know when it wants to speed up as the muscles warm up and become more elastic.

The only time I stretch now is when doing hard intervals, but that is only after doing at least a 2 mile warm up so that the stretches are done with a high blood flow present.

So, who fancies writing a post on complementary exercise for running? Is there any?

For instance, if you're running a marathon, is practising cycling for 4 hours actually of any benefit to you?

Can doing leg-weights improve your pace and/or stamina?

Are football, badminton and the like of benefit, or are you better off just running all the time?

    To keep things simple:

If you want a perfect swimming body......SWIM.
If you want a perfect cycling body.........CYCLE.
If you want a perfect couch potato body.......SIT ON A COUCH.

So I reckon it is probably fair to say that to get a perfect running body.....RUN.

Complimentary exercises can be of use but you have to have a very specific purpose and know exactly what muscles you are working.

The danger is that if you are using muscles that aren't specific to your target activity then you are going to build some sort of muscle mass which is just spare baggage.

Top athletes certainly get involved in weight training but it is from a point of view of injury prevention for distance runners and isnt really worth it for most runners.
