there is afairly local race on the 1st March which I could do either 10 or 20 miles. Now on that week I am down to do 12 miles (week before that 16 miles) but 20 miles isn't for another 3 weeks.

So my question is whats it best to do? Do you think I will be able to do 20 miles or am I pushing it?

Sallyx I think I have a 20 mile down on the local race calendar the following week, so I am with you on that - is it too soon or not? I think I will have to do it.....or not

Oh what to do....For me the hardest bit will be to mentally get around a 2nd time as its 1 lap for 10 miles and 2 laps for 20 miles...

Mine is the same - 2 laps of a 10 mile course.......or I could go round my block 10 times :rotfl:

Sally, there is only one person who can answer that question.

If you feel up to attempting 20 then go for it, but obviously very gently.

But long run mileage is built gradually to make the mental and physical transition easier to take on board.

The plus side of getting a 20 miler in earlier in the schedule is that you would then feel ahead of the game, but you would need to prepare yourself mentally for not making it and judging anything over 12 miles as a success.

Thanks, think I will enter and see how I go :o
I just seem to have been running around 10 miles for months now and not going up (yes I know thats because I changed the plan...should probably have just carried on)

In fact I was just filling in spreadsheet and realised that I have been 1 week ahead of myself and doing the wrong mileage for the week :rotfl: So not really sure what I should have done but going to try for 12 miles tomorrow I think

  • Hi y'all!

Well I've just come back from the gym, did a little warm up on the rower, then did a 4 mile walk. I completed this in 1 hr 11 mins. I had a good pace starting out, but aroung the 5k mark, my heels really started to get sore! Does anybosy knnow what I can do to lessen this? I slowed my pace after that as my heels were just rubbing every time my foot stuck the ground.

    Happy that I made the 4 miles!:T

    Hey Bex,

Well done - thats shifting some pace :D

On consultation with the walker extraordinare - Rich says that sadly this is because your heels are unused to this much activity and that after 3 or 4 walks it should disappear (just be thankful you didnt run 4 miles on them) .

If you think of it this way you've just spent an 1.10 on your feet - which is a long time so its just your bodies way of registering that you've done something unusual - you can soak them in some warm water now you're back to help them stop hurting so much!

Thanks Becky and The Walker Extraordinare! hehe

I do quite a strenuous physical job at work,I'm on my feet 8 hours a day! I'm surprised that my heels don't like it! No worries, it's good to hear that the rubbing will go with time.

I'm doing the whole shebang and having a soak in the bath with a good book!

    Well done Rich and Becky

Yesterday at 5am i did 3.73 miles @ 10:25 pace with 60% WHR before work
    Today 4.57 miles @ 10:15 pace WHR 64%

Quiet pleased with both of those runs and will be out for around 12 miles tomorrow at some point. Thinking of having a bash at Sub 4 for Edinburgh marathon just not sure its acheivable, it'll be close anyway.
