Well Robin Hood is a reasonable run in Nottingham - its a bit hilly for a half but should quite good fun - it costs £27.50 so not too bad and is on the 13th September :D

Nottingham is miles away from me, about 2hrs in the car.

    Im right on the coast.

    Morning Beer Tins,

Apologies I was a little busy over the weekend, but I'll knock it together for you today.

Dont worry about the mileage...I'm sure we can keep it under 120mpw if we really try.:p

Can you pm me your email addy for later.

Thanks Rich! Will PM you my addy... even though it might reveal my real world persona!

    Morning all,

Nice to see you back Alias, have you thought of doing the mansfield half marathon at the end of june? Im lookin in to doing that one think its about £14.

Hope everybody had a good weekend and hasnt eaten too much chocolate!!

Had a really good training session on sunday ran 6.4 miles in 53.40 so very happy.
Then on monday had my Easter Chicken Fun Run, it was great some really good outfits on show. forgot the camera but they did say they will email me my crossing the line pic. Managed the 5km in 25.20 ( my fastest time ever ) coming in 10th so was even happier especially after my sunday training.

Im back, well ive never really been away, just kept off the forum if i wasnt doing anything. Managed to get a hard elbow under my arm into the ribs during 5-aside few weeks back, that put me out of a bit.

I did want to run the tough guy course, but no one from work wanted to take part. Unsure if it was the 8mile run, or the obstacles that put them off. Prices have gone up now anyway. :(

Sub 2 should be doable with the amount of training your doing now - i.e. you wouldnt have to add much more on and your long runs would only need to be about 16-18 miles, but you'd have to add some bouts of speedwork and also some long runs leading into races i.e. run a 10 mile warm up then do a 10k race and not worry about the time...

    ummmmm ok
Whats the benefit of the 10 mile run followed by 10k race?
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Okay this is sort of what me and Rich did on Saturday - we ran the warm up for our 5k (another 5k) hard and arrived at the start line nicely warmed up and were pushed much harder than we would be in training - however you'll never get a pb that way because your body is tired (we were both about 40seconds off), but you do push much harder in a race than you would in a training session so its getting speedwork in without noticing it...

Ultimately though - it teaches your body to push at the end of a distance - i.e. you can run 10 miles and still have enough for a sprint finish then you can knock loads of time off your half (or whatever) time and as everyone else is tiring you are pushing - its a great feeling :D:D

(Its what the pros do too! :p)

    Sally,

Thats a 16 mile run, but where you get to push the pace hard in the final 10K without all the mental effort that would be associated with doing it in a purely training run.

Having said that, it still takes a lot of discipline to turn up at the start of a race 2 hours early and then set off on a 10 mile warm up!

I guess it depends where the race is - if there are lots of runners anyway about it doesnt feel that hard - I could have done more warm up on Sat if I wasnt feeling so rough then ;)
