Oooo Uk you could be on to something there - although Battersea would be better park wise as Hyde has a road through the middle and the royal parks and the run clubs can be stuffy about other groups using it....mind you if a huge group turned up flashmob style and just ran 'a course' there wouldnt be a lot they could do
*Becky goes away muttering excellent to herself*
(Oh and I went and had free wine and ran 10k home)

Drunk in charge of a pair of running shoes - Guilty as Charged, Becky
. So how does that feel? A bit weird I should think!
I did 6 miles tonight, just to make sure my legs still work after this weekend's abuse. (They do.) DS had a football game so I set off 45 minutes before kick-off for a 1-hour run. By the time I got back, he had scored twice, and the second was a cracker, on the half-volley into the top corner (just like I showed him how to..) It is so typical that I missed his goals.
Am off on Thursday, having my hair done, then I'll spoil it by going for a run. I'm even thinking of doing a 10m warm-up then a 10k race on Sunday, as I am doing 16m this weekend. I thought I might try out the tactic that was being discussed earlier, of using a race to push the pace towards the end of a run. I'll see how it goes.
By the way, roads beat treadmills any day of the week. the treadie is a last resort. It is so different from road running it might as well be a different sport.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

I think Becky's answer to that question is 'normal'! If she didn't run while drunk she'd never get any runs done - free drinks at work at lunchtime, free drinks after work from charities...she just needs to find somewhere doing champagne breakfasts now!!:p:p
Good to hear that you're still in one piece, Chick. You really are toughening up now, if you can brush off a tough 20 miler with what appears to be not too much trouble.
Give the race warm up technique a go. You would look at running 10 miles at, say, 10:00 - 10:30/mile and then doing a 'slow' 10k at 9:00/mile (around 56 minutes). Btw you dont lose as much off your race time as you might first imagine.
But trying to pick the speed up during a training run by 1:00 - 1:30/mile, and sustaining for 10K, is nigh on impossible. You may well hit the wall at relatively short distances early on, but thats the idea - to teach your body how to deal with the distress of glycogen depletion.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Ok, i think ive convinced myself to do the Great North Run for this year, even though it will cost me £50 to enter.
Im looking through the charities, and most of them are requesting £300+ in sponsorship.
What happens if i fail to raise this amount, but the tight people in work only give me £100.?0 -
Well most people are 'persuaded' to feel guilty and pay the difference out of their own pockets.
The charities do have to pay for their places, they dont just get them allocated, in FLM its about £200 per place but I assume a good bit less at GNR.
Ultimately, they cant make you pay anything as you're not signing anything to promise to do so.....but its a very common (and awkward) position for runners to find themselves in once they realise how difficult it is to raise large sums of sponsorship money at the same time as trying to get some training done.:rolleyes:Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
