Hehe Dont worry, its a good event and the run around Battersea Park is pleasant enough - we did 4 laps of it 2/3 weeks ago.
I was very impressed when Becky pointed out the wild parrots flying around. The Arctic trekker pulling his tyres around the park may form an unusual obstacle though......:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Oooo I didn't realise that the corporate challenge had eclipsed the Great North Run as the biggest road race in the world in 2008.
The Frankfurt event in 2008 had 73,719 competitors, easily bigger than any other road race.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I also quite fancy this one:
Freckleton Half Marathon, on 21st June but not sure as its a 2pm start - hmmm will be warm, but has a time limit so thats good
Becky, this is a lovely race, I'm so jealous of you. I've done it a few times previously and it has a really lovely atmosphere. The start & finish are on the Freckleton Field Day arena, so there will be lots of families around and a great community atmosphere. The route is flat and there is a real community feel to it. You'll probably have little old ladies standing outside their houses with hosepipes to give the runners a shower, and lovely things like that. I'd really love to do this race, it is one of my favourites, but as it is the day after my 'big day' I don't really think it is realistic. It does attract some fast runners as it has good PB potential. It has been going for years and usually has good souvenir mementos too. I remember having a really nice coaster one year and another time an engraved shot glass. A bit different from a t-shirt. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.

Give the race warm up technique a go. You would look at running 10 miles at, say, 10:00 - 10:30/mile and then doing a 'slow' 10k at 9:00/mile (around 56 minutes). Btw you dont lose as much off your race time as you might first imagine.
But trying to pick the speed up during a training run by 1:00 - 1:30/mile, and sustaining for 10K, is nigh on impossible. You may well hit the wall at relatively short distances early on, but thats the idea - to teach your body how to deal with the distress of glycogen depletion.
Thanks Rich, I seemed to come out of the weekend relatively unscathed, which is good and shows that despite interruptions, my training has still been good. I did have very stiff quads on Monday, but sitting in the car for hours on end won't have helped that. I had great difficulty going down stairs.
I'll have to speak to the OH about Sunday, but I am toying with the idea. It will be a bit of company for the last 6 miles at the very least! Will let you know how I get on.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Its funny how we drove right past Freckleton after the Blackpool Marathon and were talking about how it sounded like a quaint village type name.
And then, hey presto, a good race pops up in the very same village. Must get entered.:D
But surely they've arranged it at 2pm especially for you, Chick, so you dont have to get up too early after the 'big event' - you still have time for a champagne breakfast and shenanigans before going racing.;)Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
