Hehe That probably didnt quite come across as intended.:o

But in any other sport where there are limited places in an event, ie rationing has to take place, the selection criteria is almost exclusively on ability.

Thats not to say that there cant be a certain amount of places made available for other categories, but it becomes a bit crazy when the situation is turned completely on its head and the less experience you have the better (which is what happens if charities control most of the places).

A better way of allocating places would be in order of:

    a) Everyone who can prove a previous time of 5 hours or less gets a guaranteed place.
    b) Assuming places still remaining, those with a proven 20 mile time of 4 hours or less.
    c) Assuming places still remaining, those with a proven 1/2 marathon time of 2:30 or less.
    d) Assuming places still remaining, those with a proven 10 mile time of 2:00 or less.
    e) Assuming places still remaining, those with a proven 10K time of 65 minutes or less.

Then make the entry fee £200 (so that FLM arent out of pocket) and let charities offer to pay runner's entry fees in exchange for running for their charity.

This would have the effect of making places accessible to all but eliminating the 'enter on a whim' element. Having to build through the distances would be a far safer way for new runners to enter the marathon world. It is no coincidence that as standards have declined fatalities have risen in marathons - and 80% of all marathon fatalities are in the last 2 miles showing how unique the distance is in challenging the body.

    Just my thoughts.:D:D

Interesting suggestion - but I would make it 4:30 or less and the move down the criteria and make each one slightly harder as it moves down so that you cant just train for a sub 65 minute 10k and turn up and run London for example...

I also think the roads should re-open after 5 hours and then if you want to carry on fine but its at your own risk...

Only ideas though and it'll never happen because its too lucrative for the charities for so little outlay!

As you say it will never happen, but what a crazy situation where charities are effectively ticket touts!!:rolleyes:

Buy from FLM at £200, sell to you for a bargain £1500.

Not only are they ticket touts for the game, they also decide who gets to play!!!! Crazy!

If I EVER get to the ponit of wining FLM (not going to happen but a girl can dream ;)) then I am going to refuse the trophy and ask for it to be returned to the Poly guys and return my appearance fee if they promise to change it - in fact I think Paula should do it - shes got the clout to!

    I was sitting here thinking,

Well it will cost me £40 to enter on there behalf, i throw a just giving website together and link it in the charities part of the forum.

I take part in the GIOL section of the forum, this deals with making £££ from bookies, so i could easily throw a free £50 or £100 into the just giving site, showing the charity that i am making progress.

Link the site to my facebook, then what will be will be.

As they said, they cant make you give £300, but will try to get me to raise as much as i can.
