Is an entire pizza, a panini, 4 chocolate eclairs and a pair of creme eggs excessive carb loading for a 5.3 mile race??
Hoping not and that if fixes the crap race i had on saturday.
Battered sausage x2 and chips on the way home i think too.
I suspect i'll not be close to the time i should do it in (according to my ever so fancy spreadsheet) 43:47 might be a tad too far at the moment. Mid 40's would do me, sy around 45-46 mins. Who knows might even get under the predicted time, will find out in a little under 3 hoursDebt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Good luck KM!
The only thing to avoid before races is meat as its tough to digest and can lead to you being sick when you are pushing for speed!0 -

Thats for afterwards anyway
Feel fairly full at the moment but not overly bothered by that, just means i've drank too much again. Someone has told me the one and only hill is a 1 in 6 oh well once you are up its downhill afterwards and i hit 7:30 pace moday going down a similar hill without going flatout so not overly botherd.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Went for a run this evening feeling good, despite my cold but a little hungry - ooopppss
Fainted at the top of constitution hill while waiting for the light - DOH! So managed about 3 miles and then had to hot foot it home and had to pick up a doughnut on the way to get the blood sugar back up
Didnt eat any dinner last night so thats most likely the cause - no worries its tapering time anyway
Was a bit embarrassing though having to sit on the floor and recover...0 -
Had a few emails back about the GNR, all were on the lines of..We do still have places left in the Great North Run 2009.
In return for a guaranteed place on our team we ask for a non refundable registration fee of £40 and a sponsorship amount of £350. In terms of the sponsorship we do ask that you pledge to do your best to raise the £350 and we are here to help you all the way with ideas and encouragement. If you find that you are struggling to raise the £350 we would ask you get in touch with us so we can help you to achieve your target by giving you further fundraising ideas. We cannot make you pay the balance if you are not able to raise the £350, but just ask that you try your best to raise it.
In return for a place on the team you will receive an Asthma UK vest and fundraising pack, training advice and a post race reception.
So, I can see that there are places left.
One charity wants £375, but knocks the £40 off the £375, so its £335 left to fund, but as they say, they cant make you pay the full £350, but can give you ideas how to get sponsorship.
Im unsure how this would go, id probably be able to milk people in work for £20 max, there all tight.
So, GNR....
Should i register, and give myself a goal, or not..0 -
Noooooooo Alias take it from one who is doing that now - its awful asking people for money and is really time consuming and the more people who do it that way the more and more places get given over to charity so the harder it gets to run the event for the sake of running it0

Quite agree with Becky actually. I think the whole system's completely screwy. If people want to raise money for charity through running, they should be free to do so...but nobody should be obliged to - it's all too weird.
Of course it would be good to have a goal for running, so find a different race to enter, set yourself up one of those online sponsor pages and away you go...0 -
Charities should organise fun runs, ie actually put some effort into organising events along the lines of the RFLs, and leave AAAs athletic events alone.
As Idio says, if someone wants to enter a race and then decides to raise sponsorship for a charity that should be up to them but for it to be a condition of entry is just a reflection of how bonkers the system has become.
If there are 35,000 places available in a race they should go to the best 35,000 people. As it is at the moment, its the best 200 and pretty much the worst 34,800 of whats left!
Why cant I get a game in a Premiership football match if I promise to raise loads of sponsorship for a charity? Because I'm not as good as those that have been selected thats why - so I have to get better or give up on the idea!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Ouch you are cross this evening Rich - although I dont think the best 35,000 should necessarily race it is obvious that the decline in long distance running is down to the fact that decent club runners cant get enough race practice in because there arent enough marathons because London has sucked them dry - its sad really
But just because you're slow doesnt mean you shouldnt be allowed to race - but I think you shouldnt be allowed to do a half or marathon till you've proved with a decent 10k time you can0
