Hello sarah, you got in there while I was busy typing my post. Welcome!!
I'm a newbie by comparison to some on here so I won't offer any advice, there are plenty of more experienced runners better able to do that.
I know that it can be daunting posting on here at first but please stick with it - it does get easier honest. :j:j
Ha, ha I must learn to type faster as I see that Becky beat me to it2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Thanks both of you! It is quite scary posting the first time because you all seem to be able to run so far! I will try not to ask too many stupid questions
Now walking I can handle! I will start as you've suggested.... there are a few of us at work that are thinking of doing the FLM in 2011, when one of the girls is 30, so I'm starting training early!
I will need to figure out a couple of routes near where I live that are 4/6 miles long... How do you measure how far you've gone? I've seen mention of a Nike thing that links to your iPod, is that what its for?
*spot the person trying to find an excuse to buy a new iPod!*

I use the Nike sensor sarah; I bought it because I already had the trainers and the ipod so it was the most cost effective option. It tells me the distance I have run, my pace and calories burnt - I've had no problems with it and it does the job. I'm now looking to change to a watch with a heart rate monitor - I've entered some races (for the experience) and some of them prefer you not to wear an ipod.
Alternatively you can map out runs on Mapmyrun.com; it's a good site and ideal for planning runs to the length you want them. It can also tell you the elevations of the routes so that you can avoid the hills (can you tell that hills are not my favourite??)
As for stupid questions - ask away!!! I've asked loads :rotfl::rotfl:2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

Hiya Uk, thanks for the welcome!

Ideally you need Nike+ trainers sarah (the sensor sits in a cavity under the insole) but I've seen holders that attach to your laces for sale on ebay - I've not seen them for sale anywhere else but I've not really looked as I already had the trainers.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

Hi Diana, welcome to the thread. :hello:
It's a bit quiet on here this afternoon as Sundays tend to be the day that the long runs take place; I expect it'll be busier later. I'm not experienced enough to be giving out advice but there are plenty of peeps around that are.

Well just had a look at the Nike+ and it looks really good..... however, its not compatible with my iPod, and I can't afford to buy a new one. So I think I'll start off using mapmyrun, and maybe go for the Nike+ later (I would only wanna use it with an iPod I think
)

Evening All
Went out for long run but didnt get too far (about 9-10 miles) - got an infection so my temperature is a bit crazy and decided to leave it rather than push...felt good running wise though and ran for 1:42 or so...
Saw a bunny rollerblade parade down the mall and into Hyde Park that was quite funny
Off to get a KFC shortly and will reply to Diana later.
Sarah - mapmyrun is amazing!!! I've used that and £7 watch for my training0
