Nope, the Trimpell 20, although in Morecambe, doesn't go near the seafront or indeed near a road except about 0.5 miles at the 5 mile stage. It is run almost entirely on a tarmac cycle track up the vale of Lune and makes a great course!:D:D

Ah sorry - saw a piccie on the results website of the sea and made an (incorrect) assumption :o

I'd like to do that one next year though - it sounds fun :D

I just signed up to the JP Morgan chase corporate challenge. Due to the fact that most of my work 5-a-side team have entered (and there has been a fair bit of banter and one-upmanship) I have somehow ended up committing myself to run a sub 21 minute 3.5 miles. Yes, that's 6 minute miling Eek! Plenty of speed work to be done before July 8th. Can I cut a minute/mile off my pace in that time?!

Can you stick it on the events list, Rich?

HAHAHAHA beertins you nutter - lots of 100m reps for you!!!

Maybe something like this would work:

Am sure Rich has better ideas though - I've never trained for speed so not many ideas I'm afraid!

My best 100m time is 10.91s (set in 1993)

Yep, there will be at least one short interval sesssion a week for me now!

I'll make it 'cos I have to. I'll never live it down otherwise! 20m59s here I come!

I think the key would be learning to run the whole distance even paced - this is most people's problem in races. I'll see you at Parkrun on Saturday then and Rich can put you through your paces if you like?? ;)

Yes, looks like loads of 4 & 5 mile runs, plus interval training, plus plenty of 5K races (and maybe a 10k) along the way.

Is it beneficial to try to run a fast 3.5 miler in training? My understanding is that in training, it's normally distance or speed, not both. I may be wrong...

Which parkrun are you doing on Sat and what time does it start?!

Hi everyone, I'll be off out tonight for an 8-miler. I now know what caused my bad back earlier in the week. I moved a rather heavy pot (full of soil, plant & recently watered) out of my greenhouse and must have pulled something then. I didn't realise at the time, only later. :o It isn't a disc, purely muscular, but quite uncomfortable nonetheless. Much better now though so I'll be back at it tonight.

I'm off to Scotland tomorrow for the Easter weekend, so hopefully I'll be getting some running done in picturesque surroundings. Can't wait!

Some great pics by the way ;). I love running pics.

We are doing wimbledon in theory but could Richmond if that easier for you - 9am start :D:D

Re: training and speed - I think its different for shorter distances - but you'll want to get some over length runs in as well - say 6-8 miles at aslower pace

Wimbledon is generally better for me, but my wife has reminded me that we have visitors staying Friday night, so it would be antisocial of me to sneak off to Wimbledon for a run. Grrr. You do them fairly regularly, though, don't you? Sounds like the kind of thing I should be doing, free races at 5K, close enoughto my 5.6K to be useful.

What have I let myself in for? :rotfl:
