Nice pics Rich. I think you need some shades though. They would make all the difference ;);)

Becky, with all the weight you have lost, I can't even begin to think you could look porky. Are you surrounded by stick insects? The women I run with are all shapes and sizes. Granted the marathoners are a bit slimmer but there is only the group leader who is really skinny (and she is training to do 10 marathons in 10 days:eek: ) In fact she struggles to take on board enough calories. She always has some sort of high-calorie drink close by, just so she doesn't waste away.

Simply, thanks for your kind words. I didn't like not being able to run at all. My OH is quite right. I am easier to live with when I'm running. :p

  • Thanks Rich, I've been trying to increase the length of the 'efforts' and they're probably about 1/4 - 1/3 mile with slightly shorter recovery distances.

My pace varied between 8.45/mile and 10.45/mile tonight - I'm not sure if these distances/paces are what I should be doing and I sort of make it up as I go along.

Any advice, hints or tips gratefully received. ;)

Simply - that sounds just fine and 'making it up as you go along' is just as it should be! Fartlek is 'Speed Play' so play!:D :D As you go along you'll push a bit more when you're feeling good and just go through the motions when you're feeling a bit so-so. But just enjoy it and you'll develop more speed as a result.

Chick - Yep, I have them on the shopping list! Not sure about shades during a race though, they'd probably annoy me (and the guys wearing shades were behind me - if I'd been wearing them too the extra weight might have reversed the positions!:p ). And you're quite right - Becky does not look porky by any stretch of the imagination!
10 marathons in 10 days!!!   10 runs of any sort in 10 days is tough enough, but 10 marathons jeez! Its not just the running either - what about the logistics?

She was planning to do this http://www.brathaychallenge.co.uk/background-to-brathay-challenge.asp but didn't get a place this year, so she's going to do something similar, but independently. She'll finish her 10 in 10 challenge by running the Brathay Windermere marathon on 17th May (I think). Various members of our group are going to run part of them with her. I'm not sure I'll be recovered though as my race is on May 10th. I should be able to manage at least a half I would think.

Interesting that a 3-15 marathon runner averaged 3-55 over the 10 days with a fastest of 3-36 on day 10.

Running an equivalent of 182 miles/week when, as the guy readily states, the body doesn't really want to eat, is quite some challenge. She is very, very brave!

Well, she always tries to get us to challenge ourselves, and has encouraged lots of women to do things they didn't think they were capable of, so she decided to set herself a challenge. I think I'll stick to doing them one at a time thanks ;) .

So what are your's and Jonathan's revised targets for Prague, taking into account the injuries/lost training etc?
