Evening all, a nice little 8-miler tonight, as per plan. 1:14 and very pleasant it was too. DS had another football game this evening (catching up on all of the games missed during the season due to waterlogged pitches). I dropped him off early and went for my run, thinking I'd be back for the second half, but he was subbed at half time so I didn't get to see him play!
Still, it was a lovely evening for running. Quite warm and a slight breeze but not too much, so very pleasant to run in.
I'm feeling good at the minute and re-invigorated after my break.
jj- Ouch! Hope the teeth are feeling better and it doesn't knock you off your stride for too long.
Hypno - you have done some solid training so there is no need to panic. Even though the skiing isn't running, you'll still be doing physical activity so it shouldn't upset your training too much. You will have done the hard work so just concentrate on enjoying the day!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

A spring in your step and great weather into the bargain - it sounds like you're going to have a nice run in to Prague now, Chick!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thanks Rich, yes I'm feeling really positive. Do you think if I just carry on with my plan now I'll be OK for Prague? My long runs are 16 - 20 - 16 - 20 - 12 in the run in to my race. This will mean I've only done 2 20-milers. So far I have completed one 17-miler and a couple of 15-16 milers. What do you think?
Anyway, are you feeling confident about Sunday's race? Your training has gone very well and you seem to be up to speed. Are you still aiming for 3:15 or are you secretly hoping for a bit quicker if the conditions are right?Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Thanks chick - I am just worried now, because I have had so much time off, with the blisters, back, general "life" stuff......and I have yet to do 20 miles.
My last three runs have only been 5.5, 6.5, 4.5 and I have found them all fairly hard work. I really really need someone to run with I think, for the future......getting out there on your own each and every time, at the end of a hard day at work, is getting more and more difficult.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I know just how you feel Hypno. After a hard day at work, just setting foot outside the door is quite a challenge, especially if the weather isn't so great. I find evening after-work runs so much tougher than weekend runs. I suppose it is obvious really.
Isn't there a running club nearby that you could join? You might be able to hook up with others who run at your pace or similar. It is certainly easier running with friends than alone. For one thing, you are less likely to miss a run, as you have made arrangements to meet up. Also, if there is a bit of chat going on, it takes your mind off each and every step, which can sometimes be the case if you are running alone.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

I did try and join a running club, but the problem is that with my children doing such a lot of sport at a high level, I have to ferry them around to various training places, and never managed to get there - whilst I try and get a run in while I am waiting for them to finish their session, it is still on my own.....
also, our local clubs seem to start at 6.30 - often I don't finish work until after 6 so getting across town, changed and ready to run is not practical.
OH works back to back shifts in two different jobs, so he is not much help with taxi-duty for the children.
I will have to try harder at sorting out the balanceSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
You just have to do the best you can, which I'm sure you are doing already. On FLM-day none of this will matter. You'll think about your dad and the real reason you are doing this, and with the atmosphere of the crowds and the other runners you'll get round, come hell or high water. It can be really tough when you are trying to do such a lot, and still trying to shoehorn the training in somewhere but please stay positive hun.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Yep, there's redundancy built into any plan so you will still have completed what is considered a full build up. The long runs are more about 'time on the feet' so that a 20 miler should be coming to close to the same time duration that you will run during the marathon.
You should feel well prepared based on the training you have already done plus the remainder of the plan.:D
Sunday should be fine now that the main concern, the weather, seems to be going in our favour.
The way I'm looking at the race itself is to run something similar to the Trimpell 20, ie 2-20 ish and then try to run a PB for the last 10K of a marathon, which currently stands at a modest 49 minutes. So I'm expecting something around 3-05 if things go well, but 3-15 is the 'good for age' time so that has to be the prime target.
Hypno, you may have lost some training but your long runs have still got up close to 20 miles, and you now have the adaptation from those runs in your legs so can probably handle a 20 miler pretty well. Just keep the early stages of FLM at around the pace of a steady training run and then just cope with the later stages as best you can.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Rich, I might not get the chance to post again before the boards go down for the big upgrade, so the best of luck for Sunday's race. I'll be thinking of both you and Becky lining up on the start line. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Have a good 'un!Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90
