Thanks for the training plan Becks it looks wonderful and i will enjoy having a specific training plan to use for training. But can i ask why if were all training to run 26.2 miles do none of the training runs take you up to this amount of miles?Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0

You know I asked Rich the very same question when I got my first plan
2 reasons -
1. Above 20 miles your body runs out of glycogen and chances of hitting the wall are strong beyond that point - if you do that in training you wont recover in time to do the marathon - if you do it in the race you'll have to slow down but you will finish if you've trained properly
2. For your first marathon your body needs lots of adjustments - just taking it 20 miles is tough (as you will have seen from all of our efforts recently to get there - I wimped out at 17.5 last week although I have done 20 miles twice) - all you're doing in training is getting used an amount of 'time on feet' and because you'll be running the training runs a lot slower than an actual race, 20 miles should take you up to about 3-4 hours so you know you can run for that long
On a second build up - its common to go up to 22-24 miles, but again only a few times!
Does that help?0 -
I've just mapped out a 20 mile run for the weekend with a "get out clause" at 14.....
.....and bought myself one of those belt things with water bottles inSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Yeah you're suspicion is right!
We've been looking at rooms in the crazy bear though for Abingdon - wow I LOVE the black room - but may have to go for one of the cheaper ones if I want a massage as well (which I will)
