Well, I wonder how becky and rich got on........?

I did 18 miles yesterday - it was a bit of a struggle, more on the motivation front rather than the fitness front I think.....I went round the outer ring road, then the inner ring road - lots of traffic fumes, lorries, and no nice things to look at.....still, I got round, and that will have to do as my last chance for a long run before FLM.

Re my Dad's 10k - the guy emailed me back and is going to try and get some of the club members to run with me on Thursday evening, so hopefully I won't be doing it on my own. If nothing else, it was a lovely thought, and just goes to show how much they thought of my Dad.

Hope you have all had some good running this weekend!

Hi there Hypno, I was wondering how they have got on myself. Hopefully they will both have finished by now. They couldn't have had better weather, it is lovely and sunny, but cool up here today, although I'm sure there will have been quite a breeze off the sea.

Well done on your 18 miles! I did 16 myself so I'm quite pleased as well. Still in one piece, that's the main thing.

What a lovely gesture from the running club! I'm sure it will be quite emotional for you, and for them as well possibly. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, and have a lovely holiday!

Thanks chick - I am here for a few days before holiday, so will be about, but it is quite scary to think that when I get back, it will be only a week until FLM

Well done on the 16 - seems as though your break away from running did you good!

    Blackpool Marathon & Half Marathon

Just back from a glorious day out :D:D:D

The first thing to say is that we're both very happy - Becky because of her time and me for finishing and learning some very positive lessons for next time.

Becky finished the half in 1:56 ish although we're still waiting for the official results. This is a good 6-7 minutes quicker than the Brighton Half, despite having a stitch which caused a 5 minute rest mid race, so has really put a spring in her step.:D

My target time was adjusted form the start as, despite the start temperature being around 4c, it was clear that the temperature was going to be rising quickly throughout the race. So the stall was set out to just dip under the 3:15 Good For Age target time.

The first half was 1:37 so looking okay, but the time fell away without any noticable problems, just by a few seconds a mile resulting in a finishing time of 3:24:17. Funnily enough though I'm not disappointed in the least, even after just finishing, as it is the first marathon in 6 years and was run continuously - so plenty positives for the next one.

The day has a cloud hanging over it unfortunately as some time between my passing 11 miles and Becky passing the same point, one of the runners collapsed and it is feared it was fatal - altough no official news yet. We're monitoring the runner's world forum for news as the race commentator has been regularly posting on there.

Well done Hypno - you see, you're well on track and have nothing to fear from FLM. Enjoy your hols and you'll be ready.:D Glad you're going to get company on your 10K as well next week.

Chickadee - Back enjoying 16 milers I see. I take it your fall out with running is well and truly over now?:D

UPDATE: The latest on the guy that collapsed is that he had an epileptic fit and went into cardiac arrest although he was revived at the scene and taken to hospital!

I was wondering how you two were getting on....did you have glorious weather like we did down here......I am almost ashamed to post my results today...:rotfl:

I did the scenic six today (at a time of 1.07 - I was a bit cross cos I did want to do it in an hour but it was off road and I needed most of my concentration to stay upright at some points, plus a couple of styles to get over...

Not sure two boiled eggs and two pieces of toast 2 hours before the race helped either tbh! Oh well, you live and learn...

Congratulations on your six miler, Sammy! It sounds like an interesting and challenging course and will set you up nicely for flat road 10ks in the future.

You're right about the weather - it turned out glorious.:D However, probably not the best weather re dehydration towards the end of the race.

Yep, a wee bit of sunburn from 3-24 in the sun.

I'm getting reminded in a rather sarcastic manner by Becky that she applied sunscreen this morning and I deemed it not necessary!:p

Well done rich and becky! It has certainly been a warm one, so make sure you drink plenty in the next 24 hours otherwise you might suffer for the next day or so too.

sammy - trail running and cross country etc is a whole lot harder than road running......my run around the lake is easily worth a few seconds per mile compared to the road running I do.....so you are well on target for 60 mins in the near future, I am sure!

    :T
