Well, well, you may be on to something there Rich. After I had my virus and had an enforced week off, I went back to work the following week and on Wednesday I gave blood at my donor session at the office building I work in. They test for anaemia and the drop of blood bobbed back up in the blue liquid, then very slowly dropped to the bottom. Maybe this was an indication that I was borderline at that point, but they took my blood anyway. I have been rubbish since then.
Now I'm sure the stress isn't helping at the moment, but anaemia seems to explain the way I have been feeling. When I've been running, it feels as though I just can't do it. I'm out of breath quickly, and my heart feels like it is leaping out of my chest. All of which fits with not enough oxygen being available.
I'll make an appointment with my GP and see if I can get to the bottom of it.
It is so frustrating, because usually I love running and it helps to relieve the stresses of everyday life, but at the moment it is an added stress.
I did try to do an interval session tonight (well, I jogged round the track about 6 times) but the wind was so strong I could hardly stay on my feet as I battled into the wind, then with the wind behind me I was like Linford Christie. (Well, ok not that much like him, in fact not at all like him come to think of it, but you get the idea...) I decided that the session was pointless and went back to the car and listened to the Archers instead.
Thanks for all the spinach ideas by the way.I'll give them a miss I think, especially the spinach smoothie.

Hi everyone, hope all is doing ok despite any niggles. What a windy day. Almost got blown off my bike at the Elephant en route home this evening so got off and walked through the subway system Maybe I should put on some weight .
Did someone say spinach :j:T I love it but haven't had it for a while.
I like it steamed with butter, black pepper, onions and tomatoes. When I was a child us kids would drink the liquid almost as a tea. Delish!
Anyway, I'll have to make do with buttered crackers and a hot chocolate very shortly
My running isn't going too badly, even with my breathing exercises. I did 4 miles Friday evening. Had no puff to do any sprints, then I did 8 miles yesterday morning. At the moment I'm concentrating more on distance and less on the time it takes, once I've paid to do the Robin Hood marathon in September, I'll up the pace a bit
I'm adding 2 weekday runs to my current club nights of Tuesday and Thursdays as I don't want to run more than 5 times a week. I'm enjoying the fact I can eat more chocolate/madeira cake without a stroke of guilt :rotfl::j

I've been unwell so have not put much effort into exercising. It was my own thought. I cut my meds. as they make me tired. The best thing for iron deficiency is iron tablets, red meat, leafy green vegetables and malt extract. In years gone by they used to give Guiness on prescription to patients in hospital with iron deficiency.0

Hi there,
Yes, I know I should be in bed, but I have been researching anaemia. A website called Running4women (don't you just hate it when they stick a number in? Floors2go? No, its just wrong!) Anyway, apparently there is such a thing as 'footstrike anaemia' where red blood cells are killed off when your feet hit the ground, especially if it is hard ground. This is more common in women than in men, and occurs mainly when athletes (that's us!) increase their mileage in training. Well, blow me down, we may be on to something. It isn't a myth, as it was Liz Yelling giving the advice and I think she'd know what she is on about.
I just thought I'd share this with you. I've never heard of it but at least we'll be aware of it in future.
Rich - thanks! I feel better already now I have a possible likely cause but I'll make sure I see my GP just to be sure.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Poor - you are doing Robin Hood?? There's a possibility I may be doing that now - if I dont get 3:45 in London because of my injury I will have to run another marathon before Abingdon beause its too late in the year and Nottingham seemed good because its a bank holiday weekend
Hope you feel better soon Chick!0 -
Chick - If it is aneamia then thats great, you'll be back to full energy in no time. Its a problem that is more prevalent among vegetarians but everyone doing a reasonable amount of training is susceptible.
You do damage red blood cells every time the foot strikes the floor - another benefit of Sorbothane insoles is that this effect is dramatically reduced.:D

Are they really worth buying these sorbothane insoles? I over pronate and sometimes I feel like the bottom of my feet hurt like mad.0
-
Oh yes!
Or at least I give them credit for remaining injury free over many years and many miles!:D
I think it would be difficult to get up to 100 miles/week without them, in fact I know it would because you really do get a lot less muscle tiredness as a result of having the shockwaves deflected away from your joints and muscles.
They may sound expensive for a pair of insoles, but so many people give up running because of sore knees and other recurring injuries caused by repeated impact stress. Dramatically reduce those stresses and its a different game......:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

morning folks
i've officially started my lovely training plan, and completed my first 4 mile walk last night :j the treadmills in my gym only work in kms tho, so i did 6.4km in 1hr 15mins!!! :j :j :j I know this is so puny and daft, but honestly i think thats the furthest i've walked since i was in the brownies lol. I am feeling a little bit tender today, but nothing a long hot soak and an early night won't fix (i hope) lol.
The best part of the whole walk was the fact i stayed at 5km/hr, my heart rate never went above 156, and for the majority stayed around 144, but i was chatting away to the woman on the next treadmill :T not out of puff at all!!! a month ago i could only manage 10 mins and had to go and sit in my car with the windows open gasping for breath!!!! :rotfl:
For the first time i actually feel like i will definitely make it round even if i walk the whole lot, it'll take 2 hours, but i'll make it!Debt@LBM1=£4050 1st DFD 27/08/09Debt @LBM2 =£14,469.97 2nd DFD 14/03/2018 :T
