Chick, I am so sorry that you didn't get to do your race, and hope that your Mum recovers soon. It was probably best that you didn't run if you still weren't feeling great, anyway, and the 14 miles you DID do is still a phenomenally useful distance. OH must be pleased with his distance too?

Hi there Hypno - yes I was disappointed not to race, but it was a lovely day and it would have been such a shame to have wasted it by not running at all. OH is really pleased as this is the furthest he has run so far. I think he was able to run that distance as he kept to my pace until we were about 2 miles from mum's house, then he left me and speeded up. I plodded to mum's house and he ran home, had a shower and came back in the car to pick me up. What a sweetie :p .

Always better to have had a good run, albeit shorter, and enjoy it, rather than put yourself under unnecessary pressure and wish you had stayed in!

Well done rich! And yes, I do feel more or less back on track, but would have liked to have been at this distance a few weeks ago.

As it is, I have three weekends left before I go skiing, then I come home the week before FLM, so no chance to run then.....

So, I was thinking about doing a fairly easyish weekend next week - 10 miles or thereabouts, then 18 or 20 the week after, then see how I feel for my last "running" week......

As for during the weeks, with the higher milage at the weekend, I think I will just do whatever my legs feel like.....go with the flow....or not, as the case may be!

Does that sound reasonable, or should I do more runs of shorter distances, and say that my long run today was as far as i need to go???

I'd try and get a 20 in, Hypno, and go with the flow re midweek runs - so just as you suggest.

You'll get far more psychological confidence from getting a 20 done than a series of shorter runs.

But still stay within whats comfortable - this is prime injury season as runners start to cram to 'make up' for lost miles.

What race did you do today Becky?

Sausage mash carrots and cabbage sounds mighty fine...

Rich - I went to school in Lancaster and started my love of running there.....

Sammy - I did the Sevenoaks 10k - it was EVIL :D, but fun too if that makes sense - I've never raced 10k before so it was good to have a go at that distance, but I think it proved once and for all - I am a long distance runner - me and speed are not good bedfellows I have to say :p

And yes its pretty darn tasty - cheesy mash = my favourite :D

(Rich is a freak and doesnt like cheese - weirdo)

Sammy - same as me, most of my early running was around Lancaster. Fantastic scenery and such a range of offerings - flat, undulating, hilly take your pick, its all available round there. The canal runs down to Heysham are great as well.

Lots of canals round by me now, I love running down the canal, you get to meet loads of people, briefly of course....

    Hi All
I have entered the Leeds 10k in June and have just bought my first pair of running shoes(Nike). Took them for a 3k walk/stroll this morning to break them in. Do I need to do anything else to them? (only ever had trainers before!!)
Have a 10 week training plan for the 10k- thank goodness there are more weeks than that to go.
