Hey Super - loving the name
Running rocks - I've just got back home from the toughest race ever and I still feel amazing!!! Glad to see the enthusiasm - hope the distance increasing goes well - just remember to run more slowly when you're trying out a new distance for the first time
Good luck!
(wow busy on here today)

That's a great time from Rich too!! You two are such an inspiration for us newbies!!!
Talking of which - hello and welcome superstylin; glad you could join us. :T
I know not bad for a girl who trains on the embankment (read flat as pancakes) - the heat was mean today and sapped me but its all good for next weeks super tough race (just a bit colder would be great though )
Oh and I am a beginner relatively speaking, less than a year of running - in fact it wont even be a year when I run London :eek::eek:
Sorry those emails took so long to come through by the way - no idea what happened there??0 -

thank you for the warm welcomes!
thanks for the tip becky! I also wonder if I can go much slower than I already am but I'll have a go - I think maybe I'll have to increase my speed in my current runs just so I can drop it back when I move up in distance? As long as my legs take it anyway, they're not used to so much activity!"a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0 -
Well done, becky, and Rich's time was never really in doubt, was it!!
:T
I was singing out loud while I was running......thank goodness it was before most folk were up and aboutSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Some good running there Simply - I know it can be tough to run slowly - I use my marker of - if I can sing (silently of course) along to my music while running then I'm going slowly enough, if it leaves me out of breath then I'm going too fast - yes it can be boring at times but its worth it later
That's reassuring Becky (or should I say coach?) as I found myself singing along to one of my favourite tracks on the way back - I couldn't have been that out of breath to do that!!! Unfortunately I was singing out loud; really must stop doing that or I'll get locked up. :rotfl:
The email thing was strange wasn't it? You sent them on different days and they arrived within minutes of each other. I'm wondering if my service provider was having problems that I didn't know about. I'm just relieved that you thought the 'hilly' run was best left until later; I really wasn't confident about tackling that one yet. :eek:2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
HAHAHA dont call me coach - I just repackage and spout what Rich tells me so I look knowledgeable
Re: the singing thing - I get sooo many funny looks when running down embankment but I'm way past caring, so if it works for you do it
Super - just run as slowly as possible - for example I am often known on training runs to run 12 minute miles then todays race was a 8:30 minute miles - watching everyone pass you in training can be annoying but its sweet justice when you pass them at races - at least thats how I think about it
Dont force the speed up - it will happen naturally as you progress to longer distances anyway0 -
Ooo and just to prove it was hot today - I have sunburn on my ears and face - doh0

it's great to have a resource of experienced runners! I think i'll just take it as it comes then, I do have a problem with stitches on my right side when I try to force the speed and also my backside hurts! Is it the 'glut' that runs from your cheek down your leg? lol I think I might push off a bit more forcefully on that side - gonna try and keep a check on that
Is everyone an endurance/marathon runner here then?"a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0 -
heheeee I love it when people call me 'an experienced runner'
I get stitches too and terrible heartburn - if I get one on a training run its a clear sign to me to slow down
Re the muscle - make sure you are stretching it an holding for a good 30 seconds before starting off (each stretch should last about 20-30 seconds) and run very slowly to start with to ease out any stiffness - you should fall into a comfortable pattern re:stride etc once you've been running a while - mine when I started was hilarious (think Phoebe) but its very neat now...
By the way 15 mins is a great starting amount - I couldnt run round the block when I started0 -

Not really - most of us are beginners but who just happen to be entered into a marathon fairly soon - London is next month, and a few of us are doing that, and Rich is doing one a couple of weeks before instead. Chickadee is running hers a couple of weeks after - it is just "that" time of year!
And I don't count as a runner - I plodSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
