Thank you guys - it makes up for the disappointment of last week's aborted attempt at 16 miles. Still an additional 10 to find on top of that, though
I don't take my phone with me, but I do think that perhaps I should, especially for the evening runs....I don't want to be carrying too much with me though! I do have my garmin and my ipodSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Great run Hypno, what a difference a week makes!:D
What would you say was the key difference between the runs? The first 3 miles were probably at roughly the same pace, so presumably the slowing down after that gave you the ability to carry on past 9 miles?
And it doesn't sound as though you absolutely had to stop at 16, so you are definitely getting there - now 7 weeks seems quite a long time to get ready!:D
Enjoy the achievement for a day or two - and all that aching is your body building more strength!;)Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yes, it was definitely the realisation that I couldn't continue at the initial pace if I wanted to get the miles in......together with the determination not to have another "failure" like last weekend - I think that would have finished me off! Being able to run 10 miles quite happily, is one thing, but running a marathon is quite a different one entirely!
I do wish I had a running partner though - sometimes the lone running is hard going! I think that if I do another marathon, I will look for someone to run with at least once a week.....I need the occasional kick and encouragement!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. It's reassuring though when you can find a reason for a run not going to plan - and it now seems quite clear that there was nothing really wrong last week.
And you're right, a marathon is a big challenge, one that is taken too lightheartedly by a lot of first timers.
You're right back on track though, running partner or no running partner!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thanks, rich - I DO feel back on track.....my schedule says I should be doing 20 miles this weekend, but I think that allowing for blister-time, I am about right.
I have 5 running weeks, one ski week and a rest week still to go.....so still time to get that 20 miler in!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Absolute luxury - I have TWO full training weeks left!!:p
And yes, you'll get your 20 miler in, I'm sure!!
In fact, you can come with me tomorrow if you fancy, then you've solved your 20 miler and running partner issues in one go!!!:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

For those NOT doing the London Marathon, the idea for that weekend is to run the Wimbledon 5K on Saturday 25th and then partake in some 'active spectating' on the Sunday.
The active spectating will be mainly tubing, but with a bit of jogging between vantage points, to view the start, maybe 4-5 viewing places en route and then the finish.
So who's interested in spending the FLM weekend in that sort of fashion?Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
