Only 12 secs off your Leeds PB is a great result in trainers which are 'not proper running shoes and a size too small'.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Nope, you don't need a watch for a race - its a nicety!:D
But, £5 or so should do it.
And the same with insoles - not really racing kit. You need them for training if you've got any sense, but they wouldn't really make any difference to the outcome of a race.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Next thing to buy was some running gel socks..
Its about looking the part, not cool. I ran the 10k but never really had a sweat on as i wasnt running fast. Usual 30min for 5k pace. So ill finish not out of breath, nor sweating but with legs in pain as i climb the hill with a smile on face at the hour mark.
Trying to pick the 5k mark on the map, as for timing my pace. As there map has 12 marks, and thats not right.
If i do the the first 5k in 28mins or so, then i know im good for the hour at 10k, inc stopping for water if needed.0 -

Do agree with Becky a little - better to let your times / achievements do the talking than worry too much about how you're looking
That said, I run quite a lot in a bright yellow top and don't think I look too dumb at all - it's one of the yellow / green trim Nike brazil type tops and I think it's dapper(it's also pretty high vis for evening runs)
Anyway, in this mixed weather I tend to just wear shorts and either a short-sleeved baselayer, or the same thing with a long-sleeved baselayer underneath. Sure, I might get chilly for the first half mile, but soon warm up and wearing any more than that I get too hot.
The baselayers I tend to wear are either helly hanson, nike or tog24 -I pick them up for around a tenner a piece at outlet villages - they're very versatile and look quite "techie" when you're running in them.
Tend to "accessorise" the look with my garmin on my left arm and a sweat band on my right arm (mainly because it stops the sleeves riding up when it's cold) and some lightweight gloves. Maybe my camelbak on *long* runs, but not very often. Never thought I look too uncool, really - I have some pairs of shorts that look better than others, but with legs like mine, don't make much odds
(and I'm fairly sure the more destroyed your trainers are, the more respect you get from the running community...which is just as well:
"You see the ancient Greeks, your Highness, wrote in legend of a terrible container in which all the evils of the world were trapped. How prophetic they were. All they got wrong was the name. They called it 'Pandora's Box', when of course they meant 'Idio's Trainers'".... )0 -
I get it Alias - but finishing the race in your best time that you can get is all that matters - did you see the pics of me at Brighton?? HAHAHA they were funny - I was clearly in serious pain, but trust me no one around you is worrying a. about what you are wearing or b. about how you look when running because they are far too busy being absorbed in what time they are going to do, how their legs feel, whether they need a pee etc etc
No matter what you wear or how you look its the time that matters - do you best and push it hard - if you dont you'll come away thinking 'I could have done better' and thats the worst feeling in the world
*Becky gets down off soapbox and is sorry if she gave you a stern talking to there*0 -
£35!!!! Where are you buying them from!!! They cost about £12 online
just pointing out that rich had left them off his list... i just use insouls that come as standard...
