Thanks for the link! Here is part of my original post from 12 June 2008:Anyhoo, my main motivation is dropping some weight before my wedding, I'm male, 31, 5"8' and 80kg, so some room for improvement there. At the moment I run about 2 miles a morning, 3 days a week, plus another run of around 4 miles at the w/end. I run at a fairly fast rate, the morning run takes me about 20 mins. I'm looking to improve my fitness as well. Does anyone know any races of around 10k I can enter to give me something to aim for? I live in South London.
So I'm actually not running that much further :rotfl: OK, that's not true, my "normal" run is now 4 miles, even if I don't do it so often. Plus I do a lot of other sports now.
Before my 10K at the end of August I was doing regular weekend runs of 10-15 km, plus the 7 or 8 km most mornings. So I did improve a lot.
Also, interestingly I haven't really lost much weight since then, although I am now a comfortable 34" waist, so I have lost a lot of fat, which was the real aim. The weight I've gained in muscle isn't really a problem, though I'm still overweight if you believe in BMI (and I don't!).Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Pink, the more you exercise and run then the more you can eat. I had a fantastic roast dinner last night, well over 1000 cals. But with the amount I ran in effect my body only consumed 800 cals for the entire day.......Now thats an incentive to do long runs.0

Oh yes. The guilt free pig outs were the best thing about my milage at it's height. And a great reason for building it up again.
Once you can get into regular long runs, you can be slim & healthy and eat and drink what you like. Throw the endorphin high in there and we'd be pretty stupid not to run!
Edit: it's important to note that you really shouldn't up your cal intake if you're walking/running short distances. You're more likely to put on weight than lose it! Personally, I would only eat a bit more if I was running 10km or moreRunning Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
I love my guilt free custard and bubbles evenings
In addition, you can lie in bed all day post your run (or before if you do it late) and not feel bad at all - its amazing no one can tell you off for being lazy because you can just retort with 'but I've run 20 miles today'0 -

afternoon to all the new comers to the thread, welcome and good luck.
Iv improved so much since i joined the thread in jan 09, couldnt run 1.5 mile without huffing and puffing and couldnt even manage to make it around in 1 go, which is really bad as i should be fit for my job. But since getting the encouragement from all the crazy :rotfl: people on here, iv just passed the test that my job requires me to pass and im also running over 7miles in one go now so very muched improved.
Ref to wrapping up when running, i always run with gloves on, no matter what the weather as i hate having cold hands and it really puts me off my running when i have cold hands, so dont worry about gloves, scalves or even a hat on. Youll see loads of people in the same sort of clothing as you. So wrap up and enjoy the walking/jogging.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -

Hi All, just popping in to report on what is fast becoming my "weekly run"
Got out for a *lovely* 8.5 at lunch, took it much more gently than last week (1:16:30), but found a new route which included an extra half mile of running along the river - really pretty on a day like today.
Anyway, have a couple of days off early next week, so hope I'll be able to get a run in over the weekend too (to compensate for not playing footy, if nothing else)
I promise you all I *am* still reading - just not had a lot to say lately on account of my continued laziness/house buying hassle.
(and a big HELLOOOOO! to everyone that's joined the thread in the last couple of weeks, obv)

:rotfl: i love it!!! A genuine ability to eat and drink what you want!!!
i feel like i've been on a diet forever, i actually started seeing a dietician when i was 7, so thats 18 years of diets!
But i've noticed that after my gym sessions i am ridiculously hungry, complete with the crazy growling stomach just to embarass me at the gym :rotfl: But i've been allowing myself to gorge on vegetables, so last night for example, i had left over beef stew (technically it was the weight watchers point free veggie soup with some lean beef thrown in lol), a single scoop of mash, and tonnes of mashed carrot and suede (a tip from runners world).
I am a massive carb addict, so trying to keep them strictly limited to breakfasts only, eg. cereal or porridge. I'm trying to keep my calorie intake under 1500, and generally burn about 500-600 in the gym, three times a week.
And don't worry you haven't put me off, it just amazes me how far you guys can go :T , and how quickly you've progressed from a couple of miles to regular 10ks just to keep ticking over, well done!!!! :T :T :T
i used to laugh at the folks round by me who you see jogging round and round the block, but thinking back they were probably covering 5 or 10k quite easily.
I just can't wait to be up to that sort of standard myself. And don't worry i'm not gonna starve myself to drop tonnes of body weight, i did that last year and it didn't stay off, i'm all about the sizes i can get into. Currently i'm stranded at the XXXL tesco's mens stuff, coz the womens is just too expensive. But I got down to an XL (40-42 inch waist) on lipotrim, so for now my aim is to be back in my XL stuff by the time race day comes round. Thats just over 2 stone to go, and it means i won't have to buy any new holiday clothes :rotfl:
Plus today i did a route map thingy, and it's exactly 1.5 miles from home to my office, so when i can run to work and back twice, thats my 10k distance covered :j When i'm up to running that's the route i'm gonna use to judge my progression. In my head it doesn't seem far, but think my legs will disagree :rotfl:Debt@LBM1=£4050 1st DFD 27/08/09Debt @LBM2 =£14,469.97 2nd DFD 14/03/2018 :T
