HAHAHA Melika nice one!
Just wrap up warm when out - a lot of runners wear scarfs around here during the winter so I know you wouldnt be the only one, also if you start enjoying the walking and running then you can invest in a technical top - mine was £20 from tk maxx and kept me warm in minus temperatures during snow in New York but doesnt get sweaty - great stuff

Hi becky, thanks for the welcome!
The 5-mile race is on 3 May, it's mostly on roads and includes a LONG STEEP hill near the end (worrying about that already). I am not expecting to break any records for speed, I just want to get round and not come last.
I was thinking of running 2 or 3 times a week, and I'd like a fairly clear plan so that I can just follow it without having to think too much!
Thanks for any suggestions you can give!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Now who's keen? You live for this stuff, don't you?!
And you never answered my question whether you thought playing 5-a-side footie may have a fartlek-type effect on my running!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Sorrry I typed out a reply and then forgot to send!
Yes I think it does - its a full pace/low pace combination so definitely counts, but its not as productive as fartlek because you may stop before you are at your natural point of tiredness (i.e. because you've reached the other end)...I used to be very tired afterwards though so I think you're getting a good work out thats improving your cardiac fitness - which would improve your speeds - maybe slower than running alone but its good to have variety
(Oh yes I am a plan nerd)

Thanks, I suspected as much. It's the only explanation for improving times when all the runs I do are steady "tick-me-over" 4 milers.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Happy to, excel is my friend
(Although I have to credit everything I know at Rich's door with respect to plan's - he has imparted so much running wisdom through the thread I feel like I'm a lot better prepared than most runners when it comes to plans - you should see my plan for between April and October though :eek: 80 miles a week for 2 months :eek:)0 -

I also wonder if because you're not overloading the body but still keeping the fitness with the other sports thats its improving anyway - i.e. you're not tired so the body is pushing for more and more
You'll need to get some longer runs in though if you want to improve the 10k times0 -
80 miles a week    oh good god!!! I hoping, praying, training, dieting and sweating for too much, just to get to a stage where i could maybe do 8 miles a week!!!
