I also wonder if because you're not overloading the body but still keeping the fitness with the other sports thats its improving anyway - i.e. you're not tired so the body is pushing for more and more
You'll need to get some longer runs in though if you want to improve the 10k times
Yeah, I know. Been really slack on the running. Need to be getting up earlier and getting some 7+ milers in. Now that there is more light/less ice hopefully I'll find it easier. My half marathon debut is slipping ever further down the calendarStill, I'm glad I'm keeping up with the "magical 4" so the build up shouldn't be too bad when it comes.

Seaxwyn - welcome aboard! Your two miler this morning sounds as though you have a lot more in the tank....that 5 miles will be a doddle by 3rd May.....and the hill will be a piece of cake! And I am sure you won't be last (although I was last in many a race when I used to run, and often the prizes for coming last are better than those for coming 1st
).
Mellika - the good thing is that the weather is improving so you won't get so cold.....it doesn't take much sunshine to make running an absolute pleasure! I tense up in the cold too, and have found that wearing a hat, and plenty of layers really does make a difference to me.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Pink, don't let it put you off, will you?! Everyone here has different levels of starting fitness/ambitions/time to train etc. etc. We all started by walking and then a tentative 1km jog, followed by more walking. The only benchmark to measure yourself by is your own. If you really want to you can get to running 50+ miles a week, but it takes a long time. You need to set yourself realistic and achievable goals. Once you reach those, stop and ask yourself if you are happy with the running you are doing, or if you want to improve your time/distance. Then set yourself new, still achievable goals, or just keep going as you are if you're happy with it.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

Pink - just something to remember for later on if you're dieting be careful about running too - you need calories to run, I burn around 100 a mile so I have to eat an extra 6500 a week at the moment - its great
And when I started in June last year I couldnt even imagine running more than 5 miles in one go - its scary how fast you progress
And Beertins is right as usual, I'm not even up to that yet - and it'll will only be while I target a 3:15 marathon time just to prove I can!

In fact here's my very first post on the other thread in September last year, just to show how we are all start out - and dont forget I had been running for 2.5 months at that point as well!Hi All,
I'm new to running - started about 2 and a half months ago and I have a question for the more experienced runners.
I'm fine with short distances, currently I do 3 miles twice a day four days a week, and I do at least one 5-6 miles on the weekend...how can I build in some longers runs? I'm totally dead after 6 miles at the moment...am I just pushing too hard too soon? It feels like at the moment I'll never go much further (boo).
Thanks for any help,

She's a star. I think she joined this thread after I did, but she has since surpassed me in both ability and knowledge!
Following a structured plan is such a good idea. It makes progress so much quicker and easier. I'm sure if your long term plan was to increase distance or improve speed over 5 miles, she'd tweak the plan for you, too.
I'm going to try to dig out my first post on this thread, now!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

I did my run - while the children were at karate,
I ran 2.8 miles.......well, I say "ran" but I jogged most of it and walked some of it. It took me 35 minutes which included a stop at Panias house on the way past for a glass of water and to prove, as I stood dripping sweat on her doorstep, that I had actually been for the run as I said I would
So, I am very pleased with myself. I have made a start, and what's more I did it on my own - self motivated!!! I think I am more impressed with the fact I didn't cop out of it, as much as anything else!!
Let's just hope I can still walk in the morning........
