    A bank is a bank..period.

I am not obliged to buy any service from them..end of.

Nobody is saying you are! Again, your paranoid delusions at play here, Inactive! They are, however, able to offer you things that might be to your benefit, and you are equally able (nay, entitled) to decline those offers. Simple as.

Nobody is forcing you into anything. Nobody at all. Just say no.

would you prefer the bank to do away with free banking and charge you for every transaction you do like it is in america? would this be better than the bank suggesting things to you?

I will cross that bridge if and when it happens.

    Highly unlikely I would suggest.

The question was would you prefer it that way??

why unlikely? would everyone stop using banks?? I think not

We seem to have degraded into a bit of a slanging match here!

I agree with willo65 in the sense that if a bank has a better product than I am currently using (for instance 2% on savings rather than 1%) then I would welcome being advised of the alternative account

However when I am just being pushed every product in the book I begin to object.

My main issue is that once you have been advised once, you shouldn't keep being told the same thing every visit to the branch, there should be some system to stop this occuring

Agree with every word of this. Really. Indiscriminate marketing is worse than no marketing, since it p*sses people off. But discriminate marketing, where the products on offer could really be of use based on what the bank knows about the customer, can be mutually beneficial. It's finding a balance.

I thought that you had ceased having any discussion with me SS..

Just how would a bank cashier know my full financial affairs to ever be in a position to offer me advice?, I am the only person to know that.

The point is SS, that clearly a lot of bank customers get pi**ed off by this constant attempt at flogging stuff, hence my contribution on here.

I know that it will not change anything, it makes me feel better tho';)

Indeed, perhaps you should invite John Varley over here, because for certain your employer looks to be in bed with the devil, it's looking very " toxic "

Congratulations, you have posted an article about us being the victim of short selling - an article, which if you read it, even suggests why it had to be us and no other bank.

But please do elaborate about how we're in "bed with the devil." I am, of course, interested in your qualified opinion of the facts, rather than another post of phrases such as "in bed with the devil."

By the by, I've met John Varley on several occasions. He has a good firm handshake and a nice selection of ties. I thought you, of all people, would appreciate this tidbit. :)
    What would William Shatner do?

I am glad you see sense unlike others on the forum - I would also agree that every product should not be offered to you if it is not going to be beneficial.

The problem with the being advised once thing is that customers circumstances change so you could for example have a cust with £3k O/d so you suggest they see someone if they say no and then this is flagged on system saying customer has been asked about review before do not ask again, then cust inherits £100k and because of warning say do not ask about review cust continues to get no interest in current account - so as a result the cashiers don't know if people have been asked before or not.

Regards hard sell, in a bank (that was not Lloyds) I heard the guy next to be being offered a credit card

"I'm not interested, I'm unemployed so may not be able to pay back the debt"

"Oh never mind, it's got 6 months 0% so you'll have found a job by then"

I challenge anyone to say how that is responsible!

Indeed they could, will cross that bridge etc.

It only requires one Bank or BS to hold out tho'.
