Poppy: how about something along the lines of 'Your presence is present enough however if you would like to contribute, we will accept any donations towards a new bed' - or something like that. I realise its not 100% perfect but it might spur you on to think of something better :cheesy:
That was the idea steph thanks. I did some thinking tho because as soon as I wrote it down I felt weird about it so we decided not to put anything.
I also had a wecky idea for centrepieces when I was at work tonight. I got a plastic duck in the post today, well the cats did, from Go Cat. Got me thinking. What about a little bowl of water with a couple of plastic ducks in on each table. There are ducks on my invites so I thought it might be fun.... or would it b too much?

Mrs. Metallica: I dont think the groom will mind, particularly if he isnt paying! It means he is surrounded by more lovely ladies (with the loveliest being you of course)
AAWWW STEPPHH!! THATS SO COOL! LOL... *blushes*:exclamati:female:choose life, choose to save money, choose to search higher and lower, choose martin lewis and rock the F**k on!! \\mm// :female::exclamati0 -
update: ok so back down to 2 bridemaids i think.. and minus a best man..
.. one of my friends decided to play a sick jk on me just to get me to walk to hers because she's to !!!!ing lazy to come to mine.. sorry bout the language but alass, im very dissapointed. her bf also happens to be the best man who was also more or less in on the jk. but anyways.. means its cheaper for us lol..
i priced up table accessories and im thinking im gonna be able to do at least 20 or so tables for less than £50, im sure there will be change from that. and im makin sure most it can be reused for moneys worth and all that.
ive been feeling a lil poopie lately, and the other day i recieved my valentines card from my man.. late, but worth every moment.. to be honest ive had some nice cards but this.. this was perfect from him.. its amazingly us, and him telling me in his own silly way how he loves me, it reminds me why i love him and how ive lasted so long with such a distance between us, he might be in Canada but every second of the day he's with me in my heart and beside me in bed while im dreaming, i couldnt care about the horse n carriage or having the best transport or even having a 1st class cake and catering service.. im in this wedding to be married in love and loyalty to the one man who really treats me like a queen everywhere, everyway, everyday.:exclamati:female:choose life, choose to save money, choose to search higher and lower, choose martin lewis and rock the F**k on!! \\mm// :female::exclamati0 -

That sounds like so much fun!! And matching the invites.....what a great idea - I would always go for something fun over something stuffy any day. It sounds really cool. :T0 -

That's so sweet Mrs M! Ahhhhhh
I love the ducks idea poppy and totally agree with steph's comment above
We've almost finished designing our invitation - finally and fingers crossed will have the first batch printed this weekend.
I've also organised a hair and make-up trial in May with the girls. Bridesmaid A was fine with it until I asked if they wouldn't mind contributing something towards it...I get a text the next day that she doesn't want to come now... am all annoyed and off to meet her Friday to talk about it.
Thanks for listening to my moan!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Agghhh the kitten stood on the keyboard and deleted my whole post!
thanks stephk and SmlSave, thats what I was thinking. I've actually thought a bit further as I was looking on ebay for rubber ducks. Quite a few people sell them in large packs for things like fundraising duck races, and I thought it would be quite fun to have a duck on each place as a place card/favour. ie write everyones name on a duck! Or is that going a bit far? I've asked OH and he seems to like the idea, but he was half asleep at the time!
So ladies, what would you all think if you walked into a room for a wedding reception and the tables were covered in little yellow rubber ducks???? I did ask a few people at work last night, and got a few 'I would think !!!!!!?' and quite a few 'it would make me smile'. My bridesmaid thinks its a cracking idea as it's very me. OF course I can always put everyones in the bowl and they can pick em out themselves.... that might look better?
Mrs M that's so sweet, especially as it came when you were feeling a bit down.
Sorry to hear about your bridesmaid kicking off SmlSave. I only have one bridesmaid. I'm buying a fascinator for her and one of her daughters but she knows I can't afford to buy a frock for either of them so they will get something cheerful that they can wear over the summer.DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I'm loving the ducks idea! Hawkins Bazaar do little rubber ducks quite cheaply. I think it would be nice to have the names on the bottom and then people pick them out of the bowls on the tables x0

Poppycracker: I absolutely love the ducks idea! If I walked into a reception with ducks it would make me smile, I might also think !!!!!! but in a good way!! Its so original (my reception venue is on the river Thames and if there were ducks in the Thames I would have considered stealing the idea lol). Especially as you have ducks on the invites, people will not think its weird at all.
SmlSave: I think its reasonable to ask for a contribution, but is it essential for them all to have their hair and make up done or can they do it themselves to save money? I am not paying for my bridesmaids to have theirs done, I have said they can have whatever hair and make up they want. I certainly cant afford to pay for them to have it done (probably will end up doing my own too) and I think they should be happy with the hairstyle/make up colour anyway. You are right to be annoyed though, she could have approached it in a nicer way.0 -
Just wanted to say a quick thank-you to everyone. I have always been ridiculously laid back and terrible at being organised, and this forum has really helped to give me a not-unpleasant kick up the bum (sorry, that wasn't meant to sound pervy). Reminds me of when I was at uni: SO would have failed if it wasn't for my housemates rushing about and giving me the fear.
Help! All my plans seem to be going a bit pear-shaped. Nothing too major, apart from my brother ringing the other day to say that he may not be able to give me away (my dad died a couple of years ago), as his wife (SiL from hell) is due to have their second baby pretty much on the wedding day. If I thought it was possible, I would say she had planned it! :rotfl: Was a bit down, thinking 'I just wish that my dad was here' and then I would only have to worry about what he was going to say in his speech.:cheesy: Having my nephew as the ringbearer may not happen either.I am wondering whether to carry on as normal and have a back-up plan, or arrange things differently from the start.
SiL is the type to scupper things, if she can. Can just see her waters breaking mid-service! :rotfl:
We live in a really close neighbourhood and my neighbour Paulsuggested that all the male neighbours formed a chain of hands passing me up the church; I loved the idea- although, thought the symbolism was distinctly dodgy!I have a couple of close male friends who could take me up the ailse (again not pervy!), which would be cool, although I quite like the idea of doing a speech myself, if it came to it.
Is anyone else have 'giving away' issues or has any advice?
