Morning BBear - you perhaps need to read the rest of the thread. Rentapad and Mr Doherty seem to have a bit of a history and others have been pursuing him without success so far.

my husband had this problem with a letting agent/estate agent in sutton.
he rented out his flat when he moved in with me and they found a tenant no problem.
hubby was always chasing up the rent and in the end he rang the tenant and asked her to pay direct as he wasnt receiving the money from the agents.she flatly refused saying that she had an agreement with the agent.
unfortunately they werent under any regulators either and everyone he went to for help said there was nothing that could be done.
he went to police who did say that it was a civil matter and nothing to do with them.
in the end he defaulted on many mortgage payment on his flat and had no choice but to go bankrupt this april.
we just hope now that the official receiver will get the money out of them even tho hubby wont get it.
i hope this doesnt get that bad for you .

i managed to dig out some info

the journalist who covered a lot of the Mike Stell (Whitehouse properties) scam was called Neil Snowdon - he was at Manchester EVening NEws but i think he moved on.

the council staff who were collating all the evidence against these guys from both tenants (whose deposits were stolen) and from landlords (whose rents were stolen) were Jenny Seex and Wendy Lim (a housing case worker at the council, she has been collecting statements

i dont know if they are still there - but worth a shot

Detective Sergeant Paul Walker of CID based at Bootle St, Manchester also investigated the Mike Stell and Adam Coote / Josh Craven case (Mayfair Estates)

he had a huge storey written - ready to publish to expose these b*ggers - but the police asked him not to - "for the sake of justice" - and as far as i know the case never went forward

Josh Craven's solicitor "promised" he would not do it again when he was given police bail - but last i heard - he has set up another agency - under yet another different name....

Yes but if the tenant can pursue the LL instead they should, more chance of the money - dodgy choice of LA is often the LLs problem....

Getting a little bit confused by this thread, could we stick to the subject of Rentapad / Thom Doherty please? Gutted to hear about some of the other stories though...

    Thanks :D
  • Do you have the LLs details (£3 from land registry - may reveal) - the LA is the AGENT of the LL so if the LA took a deposit and signed on behalf of the LL it may well be that the LL is still liable? For damage deposits this is the case so it wouldn't surprise me if the same principle applies for holding deposits etc. Does the LL know a deposit has been taken for his property - contacting him directly could help he owns the house and he still owns the house you like enough to want to rent - maybe cut out the middleman expecially if he's broken his contract with the LL.

Iv been on to Land Registry - the Registered owner's address is at the address of the property in question, either it hasent been changed or the owner of the house was in on the scam as well......
