  • Thom Doherty has now set himself up with a new company with url manchesterlettingcentre co uk. Criminal how he can get away with this. This is a now a limited company so if he is down as a director his home address will be obtainable from Companies House.
Will be going to the MEN re this guy as he needs to be stopped. Please let me know of any dealings you have had with him or through Rentapad.
  • Just checked companies house and he has put his home address as the address for the company. Naughty naughty as submitting false information to Companies House is a criminal offence. Will be letting these guys know today.
  • Hello, I have just found out that Thom Doherty has set up a new business and as a landlord with rentapad have been ripped off badly by him. When I contacted the manchester letting centre they told me he was nothing to do with the business. One of his acts is that he is exploiting a loop hole in the law on deposits. Taking the deposit, insuring it to satisfy the legal requirement, then not returning it and the landlord is legally liable. This guy is also a small bit actor who pops up as extras or small parts on TV. maybe we should get together and see if MEN are interested in running a story on this rogue? This guy stops at nothing as he even told me his wife suddenly died and after all of the other lies I would not be surprised if this was just a delay tactic to buy some time? There must be something that can be done?
  • HI English bob, have checked companies house and is not showing his home address?

    Good afternoon everyone,

I know it sounds terrible but it is nice to see I am not the only one owed money by Rentapad.
I took them to court and was granted judgement earlier on this year but to no avail.
I agree, the loophole exploited by rentapad relies on the landlord being the ultimate responsible person financially with respect to the tenant's monies. The company used, mydepostis.co.uk, is also somehow rather flexible on who they trade with and will pass the book to the landlord.
I noticed Rentapad did not pass on the details of the deposit protection scheme to the tennants hoping that the landlord will keep quiet once the deposit is not returned. I must admit that being too honest for my own good, I helped my former tennants initiate a complaint procedure and will most surely end up paying that deposit as well. It is sad to see many tennants having to chase landlords' details.
After being granted the county court judgement, I could see 4 options available to me, Warrant of execution (useless if the company has no assets other than necessary for carrying out their work), Charging order (irrelevant), Attachement of earning or third party action (quite random since you have to target the day where there will most likely be any monies).
Has anybody being sucessful in getting any monies at all from these people?

If you haven't done so already can you lot post this up on the forums at consumer action, landlordzone and housepricecrash.co.uk? It helps widen people's awareness of Mr Doherty's business practices..
  • just trying to get my deposit back now and it is starting to be a struggle. Promises to be interesting. Usually cannot get hold of rentapad for days on end then a quick phone call saying everything is in hand.

What should I do - contact the landlord now? Due to move out in next few weeks.
  • I would suggest a warrant of execution. His company Rentapad have no or little assets but he set this company up as a sole trader and therefore Thom Doherty is responsible for any debts. He will have personal assets and I would get the baliffs on him. ( I will get the baliffs on him when our CCJ is awarded )

I only have the address for the company, not his home address, am I required to supply his home address to the Baliffs?

    Thanks
