  • £60.50+£105+rent+council tax? (Unless I've missed something) Depending on rent that equates to far more than many people earn working full time.

Yes that is very true but i was paying that all wiht my salary... And would have enough to live on... Just where i lve its so expensive that what would be alot in some areas isnt here... (brighton) It costs £3.00 just to catch a bus!!! Costs of living down here is very expensive!!

    £10 per week on nappies!!

I buy Aldis, a 50 odd (depending on size) pack is about £5.79. So for £10 a week you could get about 100 nappies. My boys used to poo all the time when i was bfeeding them but i think they would struggle to get through 12 a day!

I didnt know Aldis did that for that - thats amazing! Best tip ive had!!! The pack ive got costs £4.29 from a local shop and has 22 init!!! Im bfeeding an my little boy poohs - ALOT!!!!!

How is your second child's father allowed to get away with not contributing anything? I think you might find that this comes up when you go for IS, and they will probably involve the CSA.

You haven't been very lucky with picking your blokes have you? Hope the current one is more reliable!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I think Mums would be a lot more careful choosing who to father their children if the only financial support available was from him.

Very true i guess ( those with any pride would i guess ) I understand paying low amounts to single people on JSA as its an incentive for them to look for work, but for people with children (especially ones under the age of three ) i dont understand it as for example i am breastfeeding so therefore i cant really go back to work until this has finished. My daughter who is 5 years old i worked from when she was 5 months old until i fell pregnant with my 2nd (who is now 6 months old)
I mean nappies alone is £10.00 per week!!! At lease we are lucky enough to have a benefits system, just seems like a very small amount

You would have probably been better off staying on maternity leave and claiming WTC. Breastfeeding doesn't mean you cant return to work.

The IS claim should trigger an automatic CSA claim for the new baby as the father will be expected to support the child.

I know how expensive Brighton is as I used to live there. However, the LHA for a 3 bed property is nearly £250 per week, so with estimated council tax of £150 and the figures already mentioned, that's a grand total of about £1800 per month which is the equivalent of a gross salary of nearly £30,000 pa.

You may well have earned more than that but I don't really think it warrants the comment that "they dont give much for people tp live on do they?"

No it won't. That practice stopped in October 2008.

If thats the case, we seriously need a change of government. The idea of having to involve the CSA whilst on benefit at least was a good one - so fathers no longer have to pay towards all the benefits that are paid out - what a joke.

No one claiming this ever seems to consider that these housing costs are met from earned taxed income for most people. Perhaps everyone in the country should be housed free then we would all be on a level playing field. I still find it odd that if the OP was on such a high salary she hasn't even got beds to sleep in and wants a crisis loan.
