Hi there, happymumto2, welcome to the thread.

Please don't feel like a fake; and please don't feel you must apologise for posting. There are many different types of antidepressants (I know - I've had most of them over the past 37 years LOL) so it may be that you need a different one than the locum put you on. See what your own GP has to say.

It's difficult for people who have never experienced depression to understand what we go through, as it's not like (for instance) a broken leg, where there's something obvious.

I'm afraid the Peter Barlow reference was lost on me, as I very rarely watch TV, but I dare say some of the others will nod sagely.:o

Just re-reading your post - your colleague sounds a little like a friend of mine - she'll ring me, ask how I am, and proceed to chew my ear for an hour about her own problems! She's still a geat friend though, and it was she who offered me a roof over my head when my first marriage went t*ts-up.

Oh, and I do understand about not wanting to see a male counsellor - I can't even cope with seeing a male GP!

Good luck with your appointment Thursday, don't forget to let us know how you get on.

Cheers for that LameWolf. Peter Barlow turned up at his sons Christmas Concert the worse for wear (alcohol wise), I didn't ger plastered just the 2 glasses of wine, but didn't feel I could leave the house without them! Even then only managed a 20 minute stint, room probably 20' by 10' with at least 150 people in it, was so agitated and anxious, which isn't me at all.

Then you are doing totally the right thing getting some help from the GP. "Isn't like you at all" sort of says it all, really. And you really, really don't want to be getting to the point of having to have a drink before facing the world (yeah, pot calling the kettle black there, I'm afraid:().

Lots to say today -sorry in advance to ramble!
Thanks Holistic Witch. I'm seeing the GP again soon so I'll ask her about the meds.

Sorry you're feeling bad Sharon59. I wish there was something I could do or say to help you.

Happymumto2 -I work for the NHS too. We get a lot of guilt for being off work sick but it is better to get yourself feeling better than to be at work feeling rubbish. It takes a while for the meds to kick in properly -my GP suggests 6 weeks to see if they work. Its a bit of a suck it and see thing to find one that works well for you but they will.
Some areas have CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) on line which you can do from home. Your GP will be able to advise about this - especially if you're not keen on your counsellor or the waiting list is too long.
I'm currently playing about with a couple of no GP referral sites on the internet so will post the addresses if any seem ok.

P.S My dog is sleeping today. Managed to get out and watch the Boat that Rocked (with free tickets from the Freebies page) so feeling quite chuffed!

    Hi guys,

I've found a website called www.livinglifetothefull.com which seems to be CBT arranged by a doctor from Glasgow. (sorry can't post a link, I'm a newbie) So far it seems very good but i'll let you know how I get on (no GP referral needed, allthough this is no substitute for GP/pyschiatrist/counsellor/medication of course).
I really should at least pretend to be trying to sleep now!

Just wanted to back a previous post for www.livinglifetothefull.com as it was recommended by my CPN after she did a PCT arranged course. It's legit and useful/positive for those in a position to make use of it. You have to be well enough to help yourself though. Some conditions need long term sorting and CBT isn't appropriate for some no matter what the Gov promote!
