  • Good morning to all.

Specsappeal I'm so sorry to hear of your nephew's passing. You all must be devastated.

DH is not working today so not sure how much OS I'll get to. A tidy up of the flat and clean the kitchen for sure. I'm heading off to put the chicken carcass in the SC to make a nice stock from the roasted chicken from last night's tea. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my SC? ;)

Despite a nap yesterday afternoon, I was still very tired when I went to bed last night. Slept over 8 hour and still dragging today. This is getting very old at this point.

I have a meeting to chair at 1.30 this afternoon so I'd best get prepared for that also. I'm sure I'll feel more awake if I can get myself moving.

Many gentle ((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))) to each of you, just because you are you. :)

    Peyton xx

  • Good Morning All

Not feeling too good this morning, have a headace and an upset stomach, luckily I dont really suffer badly with stomach bugs so cant really moan. However was meant to be going to an options meetins at DD's school tonight but I dont fancy sitting close to other people & sharing my bugs. Have phoned the school and a lovely lady has talked me though most of it - very confusing though I have to say.

Anway mainly office work today, not up for much else. Need to phone the VAT man in a moment - hope they will be understanding and helpful - well one can hope!

Not sure what is for dinner tonight - might leave it to OH.

Mudgekin - I gave up smoking in Oct and I couldnt believe how ill I felt for ages after - however generally feel better now!

    Must get on.

    Pink-winged,

In answer to your question, yes, it does get slightly easier, but there are times when I miss DD so much even though she only lives 50 miles away in London. We talk to each other most days on the phone and see a lot of each other. I know women who say they don't miss their daughters at all and I just can't understand this but we have always had a really close relationship, even during her teenage years we never fought at all.

    Morning all,
I have some soup on the go and the beef in Guinness in the SC. The Indian meal we had last night for DH's b/day was delicious. There was a red rose on the table from DH to me, I said "It's not my b/day" He said "I wouldn't have such a happy one without you" Bless.

DH and I have to go to DD2's bungalow and measure up their bedroom as we need to take down a fitted walk in cupboard and put another ceiling in there. At the moment DD and SiL2b use the bedroom upstairs via a spiral staircase. No way can they carry the baby (due on March 12th) up and down a spiral s/case so we are doing the double b/room downstairs then I'm going to decorate the other b/room which will be the nursery. All this to do before our hols on 26th. Lots to do.

REDRUBY, I'm on the last chapter of A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's a great book, I also haven't read The kite Runner but plan to get it to take on holiday.

COLDSTREAM, Hope all goes well with the opp.

SPECSAPPEAL, Hope it's not long before you all get some much needed answers. ((((hugs hun))))

    Morning all

Just finished hoovering through upstairs and down and swished the bathroom so having a mooch around here. BM should finish soon. Actually hung some washing outside, can't remember last time I was able to do this and it having half a chance of drying. I might even get it ironed later this afternoon if the wind blows a bit stronger :D.

After our DW flooded the other night the laminate that is in the kitchen has started to rise up where the pieces fit together so have just had a phone call and someone from our insurance company is coming out to have a look next Tuesday as I think we will need a new floor. DW repair man is coming on Friday. Rubber gloves at the ready until then :D I'm not soft, but my eczema will flair up if I don't use them.

Specsappeal - Hope you get to find out what happened to your nephew soon, the waiting must be awful for you and your family
Halight - Fingers crossed for you today
Pink-winged - When my son left home to move in with his GF (now wife) it was hard. Missed hischeeky banter and him just being there, really. I just kept thinking about the things I wouldn't miss, his drum and bass music (sic) at high volumes, his mess and all his washing and ironing. It worked eventuallty!! I just get all the best bits now when I see him :D

Tesco delivery due in the next 2 hours, will get on with some ironing while I wait.

    Have a good day all
  • Hugs to all - especially Specsappeal. It must be so hard, I am thinking of you.

Feel like I am on fast forward and after I have posted this I am going to spring into action!

So far, little bear woke up grumpy and insisted on his bottle before his nappy change. I have always changed first, because I wouldn't like to eat in a dirty nappy, but I am picking my battles with a two year old  and he drank the bottle down to the squeak. Then he had a nappy change, then another bottle. He was almost falling asleep by this time. He is upstairs not having a nap.

Then I rang British Gas (dear heart won't be in the house when I speak to them after some rather unpleasant exchanges in the past) and the man is coming out tomorrow. I have told them what I think is wrong, I think the thermostat has gone on the hot water tank, because it makes hissing noises, the water is suddenly red hot coming out of the taps and you could fry an egg on the radiators (don't have room temp controls, and the ones on the radiators are currently ineffective). I do know what will happen - they will try and sell me a new boiler and if I was staying in this house I may have considered it however... The man comes tomorrow afternoon, almost certainly at the same time as the Sainsbury order. If he turns up. If they send someone out who can deal with it. If he has the parts... I have had some dreadful experiences with British Gas.

Made an appointment to view two houses on Saturday. The estate agent tried to sell an appointment to see their mortgage advisor and also to try and get their firm to value our current home (would suit enthusiastic diy enthusiast).

Also the fire service are coming to fit free fire alarms Thursday. At least they didn't try and sell me anything.

And I need to find a present for dear heart's brother in law who is fifty tomorrow, so I may pluck up all courage and go into town! What do I get him? I am thinking of cufflinks. I don't even know if he likes silver or gold. Sigh.

And if we are getting the house valued I need to get some stuff cleared up and the house is so messy and so full of stuff that I really need to buck my ideas up! I put thirteen items on ebay last night, and I am going to aim for a minimum of ten per diem, with a three day auction, just to hurry things up!

No idea what is for tea - mince and dumplings with mash is the provisional guess, but I have no idea.

I could do with hiring a digger to clear a path to the hot water tank!

So old style - clear path to hot water tank. Clean kitchen (don't ask:o). Put more things on ebay. And more things. And more things!

Celyn - How do you not giggle at your mother in law? Could you just tell her at your next meal time that the leaseholder has forbidden voodoo on the premises? This is one matter where I would take a very firm stand with your dear heart. You need your sanity - you are attached to it, you're used to it and you are sure you will need it in the future!

Hester - have you heard back from your health and safety people?

Oooh dear - sorry about the length of the post.

Bargain bird - yes, It's my first. A scary, but very exciting prospect :D

coldstream - sorry to hear about the coloscopy. sending you get well soon vibes x

Aussie - good work on alienating your bingo pals :D:D:D

Pink - My mum says it gets easier as time passes. My youngest sister is at the same stage as your DD and my mum's had a good 12 yrs of packing us of to uni now, but she says it's still hard - but hardest with the last. You just need to find something especially for you - and just you - to look forward to :D

Well hubby is at home today - so going to do some baking. I'm thinking a banana loaf or sponge of some type and some of twinks hobnobs yum. That can be my nod to OS. The floors need cleaned, byt I cannot be bothered and getting up and down on teh floor is now such a spectacle - I'm sure I could make money by selling tickets to people and calling it a 'physical comedy' :D

Well, my plan to get rid of outgrown toddler clothes scuppered by teenager who tells me he has a hair appt - I have to take him as it's miles away & in the middle of the morning so can't go to friend's to drop off....
Instead that day I'll go to mum's & help her with clearing more of my dad's stuff - still tons of things to sort out.
This month's GC budget not looking too bad, up to about £190 so far, including petrol, & don't need to spend much for the rest of this week. Next 2 weeks, DH on hol from work, so we tend to spend less on food as he's here for lunch - we'll have 2 smaller meals each day, rather than sarnie for lunch & cooked tea - seems to work out less money-wise. That £190 looks a lot written down, I know it would last some of you a couple of months, but it's not bad for us, as I'm reluctant to give up some things, like good meat from my butcher (dearer than supermarkets, but very local etc) & some organic stuff. However, need to rein in a bit as I'm sure I still spend too much on some stuff - need to shop down a brand for a lot of things.
Got to go - see you all later.

I am rather worried about catering for people with odd - and inconsistant - food issues. Basically his mum has this metal wire thing that she waves over food to see if she can eat it. If it's okay it vibrates one way and if its not it vibrates the other.
I think 'odd' is a bit of an understatement there Celyn! You have my sympathies.

Specsappeal my condolences to you and yours, what an awful shock for you.

I've been a busy OSer this morning. Got back from my walk at 9.30 and have since got a huge pot of stock on the go from my Sunday roast cockerel, got a batch of bread rising and have made a carrot and banana cake(doubled the recipe and did it ina traybake tin) and two dozen cherry and chocolate oat muffins. So the lunch boxes will be well-supplied for a while. I've also made a batch of quick flaky pastry for tea tonight.

Breakfast this morning for the kids was cheese on toast -seems to be their new favourite.

They have ham/egg sandwiches, flapjacks and fruit in their lunchboxes. I'm having leftover chicken and salad from last night-looking forward to that.

This evening we're having the last of the cockerel in a pie, hence the pastry. There's a bit of gravy left too:j

My first 2 DVDs from Lovefilm have arrived, so I'm looking forward to watching those (the second series of Lewis;) ).
