OS Daily Tues 13th Jan 09

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 13th January. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well

Morning. All is well here. Mild and dry to day 7c and no wind or rain. It was pretty miserable yesterday, but not too much in the way of rain, only 1.5 ml. The weather station has been acting up a bit and losing signal with my base station. It could be lost of things, like the son's PS3 wireless.... It's a bit annoying really.

Managed to clear out 3 sacks of clothes to the charity shop. They wanted me to gift aid the giving, that's a new one. Every little helps in these boom and real big bust times. Labour always mocked the Conservatives for Boom and bust, and yet we seem to be heading for a big bust...
Anyway, drawers are much lighter and I won't miss the stuff.
Popped in to Tesco and almost had a fright over some of the rising prices. They might have a £1 range, but some things are silly prices.

Last day off and no plans yet. My Mum's birthday though and we will have to find a present and drop around later. My 14 yr old daughter is having a visit from Trading Standards today as I hooked her up to be a test purchaser. That means she might go and try and buy knives and tobacco etc and catch out shopkeepers. . They want to meet her and see if she looks her age.

Well, not much else here. Leftover roast pork for tea, mash and gravy I think.

Cheers folks

Morning N9eav & all that follow!

Not online yesterday as I've got a cold & feel yukky but at least being up so early this morning, with a bunged up nose, has given me a chance to read through yesterdays thread.

Specsappeal - I am so so sorry to hear about your loss it must be an awful shock for everyone, you & your family are in my thoughts & prayers.

Having a quiet day today, not going out at all, so it will be another no spend day. I have got some ironing to do & the wm is on it's 2nd load already with another 2 to go. My dd stayed at her bf's all weekend so brought 3 days of washing back last night - oh what fun LOL!! Apart from that I've already done a quick polish of the living room & will sweep round later. DH will be dog walking today before he goes to bed (doing nights at the mo).

Tea is chilli for dh & I and spag bol for the kids. I just make a basic spag bol then take half out & add kidney beans & chilli powder for us. I'll cook the normal amount of spaghetti as I like to have some in the fridge for quick snacks for everyone. I don't really keep rice hanging around so do what we will be using only.

Halight - What a let down after you were all psyched up & ready for your meeting yesterday! I hope that it's sorted out for you today and that you know where you are up to. It's horrible being so 'up in the air' with your job.

Have a good OS day everyone. (((((((((((hugs))))))))))) to all.

    Louise xx
  • Just been for my run and waiting for the kettle to boil.

Specs, I'd just like to echo everyone else's condolences. It is truly heartbreaking when soeone young is snatched. I hope you can find some means of comfort in your faith.

Colposcopy didn't go well yesterday. The procedure was fine if mortifyingly embarassing. The bloke found a "big area" that I have to go in to get removed. I burst into tears when he told me which surprised me more than anyone else. I'm usually so sensible about these things. He said he thinks I should hve it done under GA and we'll hear from him in the next 10 days. OH was an absolute hero.

Otherwise, at a conference all day then a dinner night tonight, they sound like fun but the uniform is so uncomfortable and there are so many rules and speeches that they are actually quite soul destroying!

    Love to all.

Morning N9eav and all to follow,

Not so cold here today. I kind of miss the frosty weather, .

Day off today, I need to rub down the other half of my kitchen counters, the first half look fab, and show up the second half  , so will get that done this morning.

I also need to make some cookies for the coming week and tidy through, will out a wash on.

HM lamb burgers for tea with wedges and peas / sweetcorn, so have to make the burgers later.

Will manage to fit in a game of scrabble later. I have just finished reading 'A thousand splendid suns' which was a great book, I want to read 'The kite runner' next, wrong way round I know, :D , so might see if I can order that cheaply today.

Any hoo, hugs where needed, have good days all xx

Halight, hope all goes well today x

    Hugs to coldsrteamalways xx

    Morning all,

Went shopping this morning with DGS & took him to the library. I ordered Charlotte's Web for him (dvd) ages ago and it still hasn't come in. I was told today I was 7th on the list. :D He should get to watch it this year. XDIL came to pick him up before lunch. I had a nap :D and then made another batch of bread & butter pickles.

I won a few times at Bingo last night :D and also 2nd prize in the raffle. I was told not to come next week. :p I've got DGS all day tomorrow so probably will go swimming etc. Think there is a cyclone up north somewhere. I must watch the news tonight. :o

Specsappeal How shocking. Have they shed any light onto the reasons why? Hugs to you all.
meanmarie How did the Brissie rellies cope with the weather? :D I found the Edi staff rude too. DH had to ditch some clothes out of his bag to fit his laptop in. All the other airports let him carry in on. I couldn't possible throw any of mine out. :D

Sunnygirl Hope you feel better soon.
coldstreamalways <hugs> Hopefully it won't be nasty.

Hope you all have a lovely day. I better go and make DH pack up. Salmon slice, hot herbed potatoes & salad for tea followed by Impossible Pie & icecream for dessert. <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Good morning N9eav and Sunnygirl!

I'm glad the weather calmed down last night; my BIL and SIL had to catch the late night ferry for their new life in France. Hopefully, they'll be getting off the boat soon in Caen.

Well, I haven'e been on here much while they were staying with us but will have more time now! I did pop in briefly last night when I read Specsappeal's dreadful news. Thoughts and prayers with you all, Specsappeal.

I haven't caught up with anyone's news really but I gather your day didn't go so well, Halight. Good luck to you.

Well, we had a takeaway for dinner last night. I was going to cook but our guests insisted on buying us dinner - didn't mind having a break from the cooking. I had already prepped for dinner for all of us. We were going to have Stovies so I shall cook it all tonight and freeze the spare portions for later. I don't even have to prep for dinner tonight, now, which is a bonus!

They had bought some clotted cream with them - a huge tub, so we've been having that with everything!

Today, I have some of my own work to do as well as some ironing - don't know which to do first! This afternoon, I'm collecting DGD from school so I need to line up some activities for her. Luckily, when I turned out the spare room last week, I found a load of colouring books, coloured card and stickers that I had put by for her so I think we'll be making Easter cards or something. She loves anything like that.

Well, I'd better go and have my shower. I'll try and keep up with you all today. Hope you all have a good day and lots of (((hugs))) to all in need, especially those who are poorly, worried or feeling sad.

Hubbys on the train, lets hope he doesn't get rained off.
Welcome 98, sorry I forgot to say it yesterday, spending all day with a bursting bladder does nothing for my memory!
Csarina, I'd have waited, there was no need to go to the PO just for me, thanks for the offer of a cork! Lets hope they have the toilets & the boiler working today, though I don't hold out much hope.
PP I hope you feel better soon.
Halight, hope your meeting goes ahead today.
Hugs to specs, Smokey, Jay, Mrs Mix, Coldstream & everyone else in need & one for Little bear, just because he is so cute, my DGS has done the same with Bepathon & Vic & makeup when DD left her handbag unattended!!

    Porrige for breakfast.
    Turkey sandwiches for lunch.
Toad in the hole for tea.

I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Dh has gone to Munich and Copehagen for work so just me and the kids til Thurs night!

Today I need to bake more bread- my kids can devour a fresh loaf in a day!
Meant to hoover whole house yesterday but never got done! So that will be added to today's list!

Was hoping not to have to go out in the car today but ED needs memory stick for school and the stairgate broke yesterday- ED and YD had an argument and it got pyhsical and they crashed into the gate and now its broken:mad:   Have tried to mend it but its just not happening.

Veg delivery today- hooray! Fridge was looking bare of all veg!

If it stays dry I will hoover and tidy out the car today too.

    Good Morning All!
Very mild here after recent cold snap - have just walked dog and didn't even notice I'd forgotten my gloves and hat. Still awake just after 4am - retirement clearly doesn't suit me! Loads of housework yesterday, vacuumed, washed, dusted and polished. Still needs load of decluttering tho'. Carpenter should be here this am to discuss bookshelves.
haven't shopped since Friday - not sure about today's food, probably HM soup for lunch and liver and bacon for supper. Whatever, I am not going to shop! Hope to get to the sewing machine later - I did set it up yesterday, but got no further!
((HUGS)) to all who need one, especially Specsappeal.

Morning everyone, how are you today?

So sorry to hear your news Specsappeal, thinking of you.

I've got a day off work today, annual leave from 2008 that needs to be used up. So, going to have a day pottering in and around the house. Got some paperwork that needs to be shredded and binned (in the organic bin of course!) and plenty of little bits and pieces that need to be done. I've got 4 cartons of RTC cream in the fridge, so I'm going to try and make my own butter. That and taking the dog for a long walk as it looks like a good day here :) There's a load of towels that were washed through the night that need to be hung up, so hopefully they'll get dried outside

Just had a lovely cup of tea and a couple of slices of toast
    lunch will be a sandwich
tea is gammon steaks, mash and cauli cheese

Going to make a pan of chilli that will do us the next couple of nights.

Here's hoping that you all have a good day. Hugs to everyone!
  • Morning all,

just a really quick one as I'm determined to try & keep up with the threads as much as poss, even though it's a nightmare finding time at the moment!!

((((((specsappeal)))))))) and your family. What a terrible shock for you all, I hope you get strength from each other. Something similar happened to my 16 year old DD's best friend at the start of their summer holiday last year - he hadn't been feeling 100% for a few days, but not "ill", and although his mum found him still blue & unconscious, he was pronounced dead at hospital. It has only recently emerged from the PM results that it was some sort of virus that had caused heart failure - and there have only been a very few cases. The only thing I can say to her, to try & comfort her, is that he enjoyed the life he had, and was able to live it up to almost the last moment (they were at the circus the night before). I know it's small comfort, but as I say to her, he wasnt' suffering for a long time.

Also (((((coldstreamalways))))) and anyone else going through tests & anxious.

Must make porridge in a minute, then a packed lunch to take into Uni.
Supper tonight I am trying the pork steaks with onion, apple, creme fraiche & sage that N9eav mentioned the other day.

((((hugs)))) for everyone else needing them - I know there are many at the moment & my thoughts are with you all.
