I have a 1mb Broadband service with Pipex which was costing me around £23.00 every month. I phoned their Customer Services this evening and told them I was considering leaving due to better deals being available with other suppliers. I quoted BT at £12.99 for 1mb, Madasafish etc..
They have now reduced my subscription to £14.99 per month. I am now locked in for another year and have a 5GB download limit (I was nowhere near the limit anyway) but I regard this as an excellent discount on what I was paying before. Pipex are renowned for their service (never had any downtime with them) and their Customer Service has always been good.

For any Pipex customers who also want to try this ring their Customer Service line on 08450772455.

It seemed to me that what finally swings it in favour of Pipex cost-wise, compared with other 2 MBS packages, is the inclusion of 1500 or 3000 mins/mth free phone calls in their package, and not just offpeak. Have you or any other of the expert correspondents taken advantage of this, and with what results?

What I said previously was slightly off target: With Pipex it seems you get EITHER the first 2 months free of charge if you switch from another broadband, OR free set-up and modem if (like me) you upgrade from dial-up, but NOT both (yet).

Ive been on NTL Cable broadband for the past 4 years. Ive been paying £24.99 per month for 2 Meg broadband and £10 for line rental about £11 on landline calls through Line One - Total £46 I phoned them last week to tell them im going to Talk Talk. They offered me 10meg broadband, line rental and free UK landline calls 24/7 for £22 per month inclusive. Thats saving me about £24 per month. A £1 dearer than Talk Talk and I still have to pay for Euro calls, but I dont have to pay the £30 Talk Talk Reg fee, I dont have to have my cable phone changed to a BT line and Im not tied into any term contract.

Check out the Primus Broadband thread and see my post (No.35) I think this is a very good deal and you don't have to pay a year up front. Free modem & connection and unlimited 1MB for £9.75 per month approx in the first year. Freephone tech. support Plus free evening & week-end telephone calls. etc.

My phone was originally with ntl but I've changed to BT. Talk Talk wont let me register because my number is ntl. Is there any way around this?
  • I signed up for Talk Talk's broadband offer on 13th April with an estimated going live date of end of June.
Phone was connected on 6th May.
I received a letter on 8th May to say that I was going live on 9th May.
    Modem arrived on 10th May.
I installed Modem on 14th May and broadband is now up and running with a connection speed of 2.2Mb.
I am certainly delighted with the package.

hi zila - yes there is - i think you have to change your number to a BT number (bizarre or what, sounds gobbldygook to me!!!) - we had to do it when we switched from telewest back to bt in order to use homecall package. I think if you ring bt and explain problem they'll tell you what to do.
  • have just agreed to sine up to Bulldog- they appeared to tick more boxes than the others. Have I made a wrong choice- are they good bad or indifferent?

Martin why are you recomending Madasafish as the best value provider when they cost £13.99 per month - that's £4.25 p/m more expensive than Bulldog..

Of course you do have to use Bulldog as your Phoneline provider for the entire time your with them, but that's not really a problem to be honest as they have a fairly good (if typical) tariff costing £10.50 p/m.

The package is meant for someone with low download requirments, (the limit's only 1 GB p/m) but apart from that I can see no problem with it. And if you are unhappy with your choice you can leave them at any time as it's only a monthly contract. In addition they garuntee the prices you signed up for will remain the same for as long as your with them (even if that's for life!). They say that garuntee only applies if you sign up by the 15th february, but after the 15th they just extend the offer till the next month and so on. They've been doing the same offer for ages and I guess they're going to keep doing it.

So.. if anyone can tell me why any other provider is a better choice (apart from for download limits) then please do as I'm always on the look out for ways to improve my setup.

Bulldog were investigated by the regulator recently for poor customer service.

If you compare them with the best on ADSL Guide they don't look good.

    Hi

I would just like to say that I've been set up on Tesco Broadband for a couple of months now and they have been fab. I hardly download anything so I guess the speed/download limit wouldn't be good if you were using it for that.

I was on mega slow dial up before and just wanted broadband for a faster service and IF I did the occassional dowload. It's £13.97 per month and set up was fantastic, free modem arrived almost immediately with activation date which was sorted out spot on. Free helpline support too for first 4 weeks with people that weren't in India (as far as I know)!

No problems so far. Cheap internet access depending on what your needs are. :T

No reliance should be placed on the above.
