I just told Wanadoo that I was about to change provider and they offered me a better speed connection at £3 less per month. So, Martin sometimes it works - but would have changed provider if nothing had been offered. Wanadoo is good and I have had no problems with them.0

Tiscali is currently offering cheaper broadband for new and existing customers, simply ring them up and ask for the new price, I managed to get 512 broadband for £9.99 a month (a saving of around £5.)
however you will be passed around and told the offer is no longer avilable, keep trying!! its been extended until the 17th and as I managed to find out this was because of problems with their system so keep asking them till they give you the new price.

Agreed. I'm with Tiscali and the only reason I haven't dumped them is the special offer £12.99 for unlimited as I download 24/7 + plus the hassle of changing my email, etc again.
However they took 3 weeks to replace a faulty modem and I had no broadband for 5 weeks when I moved house. Guess whose fault that was!! :-( They are utterly useless and won't even compensate me for the 5 weeks of no service.0 -
Anybody ever used Freeola????
http://freeola.com/broadband/
You can sign up for 3 months for £9.99 per month. If you stay with them after that it becomes £19.99 per month.
What I am thinking is that you sign up for 3 months and make sure you cancel by the end of the 3 months.
By that time, this price-war should be over and I can then find the cheapest broadband supplier who doesn't want to take over my phone-line and want a 12 month contract...
Only thing is, I've never heard anyone ever mention Freeola, so don't know if they are any good or there is a scam I am missing???0 -
geebeeone wrote:Madasafish might seem cheap for small users but if you want unlimited downloads with great reliability and service then Pipex is very hard to beat, and cheaper than Madasafish with no extra charges.
O.K. Madasafish does provide up to 8mb, but that is only if your exchange supplies it.
Carphone Warehouse tell me that to sign up a new broadband account in my area would cost me an extra £10 / month (something to do with the exchange not being unbundled ...) which puts them out by my reckoning. Previously I had come to the conclusion that - taking free phone costs into account with a 2 MBS service - Pipex @ £15 / mth , or £20 / mth to include 3000 all day minutes - was about the best on offer. Am I right or any advances on this??? So far I haven't heard anything negative about their service though last year I found it very difficult to phone their customer services ("we are recruiting new staff ...")
PS First 2 months are free, and no set-up charges from what I can seeTelegraph Sam

I have a 1mb Broadband service with Pipex which was costing me around £23.00 every month. I phoned their Customer Services this evening and told them I was considering leaving due to better deals being available with other suppliers. I quoted BT at £12.99 for 1mb, Madasafish etc..
They have now reduced my subscription to £14.99 per month. I am now locked in for another year and have a 5GB download limit (I was nowhere near the limit anyway) but I regard this as an excellent discount on what I was paying before. Pipex are renowned for their service (never had any downtime with them) and their Customer Service has always been good.
For any Pipex customers who also want to try this ring their Customer Service line on 08450772455.0 -
I am wanting to switch to broadband. My present ISP for dial-up is Breathe. They are not very good and want an uncompetative £19.99 a month for a 512kb connection.
I have been looking at other ISPs and am keen on two that I have found. one is Plusnet and the other is EFHBroadband. Does anyone have any experience of either of these ISPs?

Art,
I've been on Plusnet for several years and have no complaints about customer service, bandwidth,down-time etc. My main complaint with them is just that their pricing structure is now based around an 8Mb package for £15 per month. very competitive but if, like me, your home cannot actually get these speeds, you'll be able to get a cheaper ISP elsewhere. I can only get up to about 1.5Mb on my line so no poit in paying £15 p.mm. for an 8Mb service. Might as well move to Euro1 or one of the other ISPs now offering a slower (but perfectly adequate) service at £10 p.m.ELR0 -

I know what you mean but I have had my line checked and I will be able to get 6Mb on it.
I looked at Euro1 but the contract length is unacceptable when many, including Plusnet, let you leave with a month's notice. Also I seem to reember they charge premium rates for their tech support. One of the companies I looked at was a local rate and the other was free.
Thanks for your comments on plusnet.
