I use a company called V21, I used them for some time before I got Broadband as they were the cheapest dial up service provider, now after being with BT for the 1st year at £17.99 per month and to get the free modem and connection, I migrated to V21 on their "up to 8mbs" connection at £9.98 per month, with so far no problems and a 2 gb per month download limit is the same as BT were, ample for most users.
Check them out at:

tubster wrote:The best deal I have found for unlimited broadband is £10 a month for 1mb speed at https://www.euro1net.com - to get this price you have to pay for two years in advance (£240). You can get free modem and free connection. I have been with them since October and I have never had a problem with the service, good speed etc. The only downside is telephone customer service, which costs £1 a minute, but email support is free and they get back to you within the day. You can also ask them to call you in the email and they will! I am an experienced computer user and don't need lots of support so this is perfect for me - I don't need massive speed (my exchange can only handle 2mb speeds anyway) and I wanted cheap unlimited connection. The company seems to have been going for a couple of years now so I am hopeful it won't go bust :-)

They looked good to me too. The thing that swung it for me is that adslguide.com rated them as clearly better in all categories than Tiscali. Still, I havent been connected yet so have my fingers crossed that it's as good as it looks.
The offer is still open.0 -
According to the euro1.net website, £240 will only get you a 512kb connection. To get a 1Mb connection, the charge goes up to £335.76.
For clarification, the £240 fee for 1Mb is a Special Deal. When you apply, the deal may be over. Furthermore, once your subscription period is over (1 year or 2 years) you revert back to their normal charge.... an extra £90 per year.
£10/month is still a good price but users need to be aware of the limitations of this offer. If you intend staying with the same ISP for >2 years, this won't be the cheapest.

A few weeks back, after phoning Sky to get a reduction for 3 months by threatening to leave, I decided to see what Telewest would offer if I threatened to cancel.
So I did a bit of research and found Bulldog offering up to 8Mb broadband for £9.75 for the first six months and quoted this offer to Telewest. The nice chap immediately offered to match it!!!! So I am currently paying £20.25 for my phone line, Broadband and the basic TV package (I am getting the TV for free for a year after threatening to cancel that last August).
I case you are wondering - yes I do have both Sky and Telewest TV - that is why I was canceling the Telewest in August - but if they what me to keep it for a year free of charge I won't complain.
I firmly believe that if you find a Broadband supplier that is reliable, why not see if they will match the offers of some more restricted suppliers, resulting in a win win situation.
My next challenge is, tonight I noticed that Bulldog are offering the £9.75 deal for the life of the contract (if ordered by 15th Feb). So tommorow I will be on the phone to Telewest asking for this offer to be matched or I am cancelling (yet again!!!).
I will report back on how I got on.0 -
Martin why are you recomending Madasafish as the best value provider when they cost £13.99 per month - that's £4.25 p/m more expensive than Bulldog..
Of course you do have to use Bulldog as your Phoneline provider for the entire time your with them, but that's not really a problem to be honest as they have a fairly good (if typical) tariff costing £10.50 p/m.
The package is meant for someone with low download requirments, (the limit's only 1 GB p/m) but apart from that I can see no problem with it. And if you are unhappy with your choice you can leave them at any time as it's only a monthly contract. In addition they garuntee the prices you signed up for will remain the same for as long as your with them (even if that's for life!). They say that garuntee only applies if you sign up by the 15th february, but after the 15th they just extend the offer till the next month and so on. They've been doing the same offer for ages and I guess they're going to keep doing it.
So.. if anyone can tell me why any other provider is a better choice (apart from for download limits) then please do as I'm always on the look out for ways to improve my setup.0 -
Hi, this is my first post, and I haven't to be honest read all
the posts regarding Internet prices. We have two computers
here at home, connected by a Lan. Last month we changed
from BT Broadband to https://www.metronet.co.uk.
I am disabled and 'on-line' as much as I can be.
Which basically means our computers are on nearly all day,
the bill for the last month was £11 + vat ! What a saving!
At the moment we work on a month to month basis, no
contract to sign. They are working on a convenient monthly
payment plan, at the moment we are billed and then pay
via our on-line Bank. We have had no problems , so far.
We are very pleased with the change.
I hope this may be worth a look for some ?
Glad to be here, Sylvia50 -

Tried to get on this deal myself, but unfortunately they do not offer the upto 8MB in my area, (Devon, not the out Hebrides!!), even though other providers do. Cheapest they can offer me is 1MB at £14.50 per month.0 -

Just for information, Metronet is now part of PlusNet, who are already one of the top ISPs for customer service, quality of service etc as well as being one of the cheapest.

I am looking for a cheaper ISP, currentlyusing V21 paying £16.99 a month. I want free connection & modem, and don't want to download. Anybody got any suggestions?
Also is Madasafish's offer for first year only? What's the cost in subsequent years?0 -

The best suggestion I could make is to go to https://www.adslguide.org.uk and also Martin's guide. Note that parts of the adslguide are not always 100% up-to-date. However, by reviewing just these 2 websites, you'll have a good idea of which are the cheapest 10 ISPs and - very importantly - how they are rated for customer service, reliability etc. No good going for an ISP that is £8 per month if the servers are always going down and you can't get hold of Customer Services except via a £1 per minute phone call. The other important point about adslguide.org.uk is that they compare "total cost of ownership" i.e. once any initial offers have finished, how much is the ISP going to cost year-on-year. Don't just look at cost per month, look at cost per year.ELR0
