Surely the point is that a huge group like Tesco keep getting things wrong. There can be no other interpretation of 'any bottle of wine' than what it says.It should be qualified in some way ie;from a certain range. Also, when being overcharged for an item, sure you can get double the difference,.but, how many people do not notice the overcharge!0

Tesco and most of the major supermarkets regularly "carefully word" their communications to us ie ...up to 50% off....we are the cheapest in price comparison...you get the drift, these comments/statements are usually a bit of a stretch in comparison to the truth. So when they make a mistake, what do they think will happen, the customer will jump and take advantage.
I find it rich that Tesco do not like it when customers minipulate their statement to take advantage, especially as this is what they depend upon in their everyday marketing.
A big thanks to all the comp posters for their effort0 -
The customer isn't always right though. I had one customer go completely mental at me because I didn't show her where something was because a shelf had just collapsed and I stopped to fix it before I could show her where the product she wanted was. In my book safety come before customer service, but that said, I do know how to look after a customer and help them and will 99% try to get them the outcome that they are looking for.
Think back to that incident, were you so pre occupied with the shelf that you responded in a brusque manner? did you respond in a similar tone that you used to the poster you considered tobe "spoiling for a fight". Usually people respond like with like, that may be why she went "mental". Maybe you don't realise you have an "unfortunate attitude".
You didn't respond to my post re the legality of the sign. Are you not obliged to sell "any" bottle at the quoted price?if the sign says that?0 -

With respect to CG I would suggest that anyone that throws down such a gauintlet in open forum should be prepared for it to be taken up and challenged as it was in this instance and quite rightly so.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

Isn't a label or a price display simply an 'offer to trade'? I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that until the customer gets to the checkout and a final price is agreed, then the 'contract' on the trade doesn't exist.
You're right - it's an invitation to treat - BUT on the other side of the coin, the following factors land Tesco deeply in the brown stuff:
1. The "double the difference" policy, as displayed in every store, is also contractual and binding under s14 of the Trade Descriptions Act (and, notably, its wording doesn't contain any caveats about "genuine customers only" :rotfl: )
2. It's a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 for a trader to display misleading pricing indications
3. It's also an offence under the new EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive which came into force in the UK in May 2008 - see the excellent website https://www.isitfair.eu for more on this
The Tesco staff who have contributed to this thread would be well advised to do some homework on the above laws.0 -
I am a stock control manager for a Scottish store, thats about as much as I will tell you
Looking at your profile i'd say around GlasgowUnfortunately the offer isn't available in my store as it is quite a small superstore
i thought you wasn't going to tell0 -
God, there's so much vitriol on here.0

There are 6 Tesco stores in Glasgow, not including express stores. Also, I don't work in a store in Glasgow so if you increase my driving time to around 1 hour this means I could work in any of around 50 stores roughly. Saying I work in a small superstore doesn't really give anything away.0 -
However, although mistakes can happen, isn't it the case that Tesco had to offer R&R because they were making so many mistakes and ripping off so many customers that they were in danger of sanction from TS?
And Tesco still regularly mis-price and overcharge.
Perhaps they would make fewer mistakes if more of their profit was diverted to getting things right?
A customer who picks up an item clustered with dozens the same with a price label of £1, who is then charged £1.30 may well get their 30p back in most cases, but how many customers will have not realised that what they thought was £1 was actually charged at £1.30? There are plenty of cases where Tesco are not even giving DtD of mis-prices.
You really need to try putting yourself in the shoes of a customer. It says a lot for the attitude of some Tesco managers that you responded in the way you did.
And it also says a lot for the type of customers we have to put up with, with regards to the posts on these boards! I see this is another of those "friendly" posts that are becoming more and more frequent round here!
The way your posts reads, and so many others you all seem to think that Tesco DELIBERATELY sets out to rip everyone off!! Honestly they dont, and for those of you that think they do then whats it like to live such a paranoid life?!
And why even shop there in the 1st place!?!?! Tesco is a company like any other trying to make a profit, and no I dont agree with the ways they go about it sometimes, and yes they have put others out of business. But they do employ thousands of people.
It just really riles me the way people set out to spot mistakes and rush around to get their dtd. Has it ever occured to anyone that its REAL people that have to put new SEL's on the shelf every day, change POS, offers etc.
Its not always easy, and sometimes it can lead to staff being reprimanded, and ultimately in disciplinary and even dismissal every time a customer comes in for refunds because the correct SEL isnt on display?
Just a thought  .........0 -
what i cant understand is why any managers care about trying to save a few quid for tesco, because for 1 tesco can afford it and 2 they treat the staff like dirt!!In the end, we decide if we're remembered for what happened to us or for what we did with it0
