Have been out and about all day in the cold brrr, at least its dry

Just had a lovely Pizza with the leftover sausages from yesterday sliced all over the top yummmm

Just had a phone call from my friend who had a knee op on Tuesday, she is back at home, I thought she would be in for 6 days, which they told her when she first went in. They only did a half knee op, not sure what that is though she sounds very cheerful so thats a good thing.

Well off to read through now before I go veg out in front of the TV with my knitting.

Pie cooked and cooling on top of the hob. I got four pasties from the remaining puff pastry and we've just had one each for tea with some salad. They are extremely tasty! The other two will go into one or other freezer - seems strange to have a choice! Actually, now we've checked that the new one works OK we'll probably turn it off until we have something that actually needs to go in it - otherwise the temptation will be there just to let it get cluttered up.

I've persuaded MrEH that he wants to get involved in meal plans etc as well so he's going to help with the next one. Next week is done so it will be the one after. I'll let you know how it goes! :rolleyes:

Just popped back to say the stew we had in the SC was lovely,I put in the following: Lidl 2xpacks Beef Stewsteak,carrots,potatoes,leeks,mushrooms,1/2pt red wine,1pt stock oh and 2 onions,it was on High for 5 hours and then added some Bisto granules to slightly thicken was yumm yum! I must say Mrs B and I swear by both Lidl and Aldi meat its very flavoursome,apologies to the veggies out there....night

Late posting for me today, mainly because I got caught up in the joys of cleaning. Don't you just love it.

DN2 still with me and he made a lovely shepherds pie and apple crumble, albeit with me standing behind him and guiding him around the kitchen! Must admit he did a good job considering its his first attempt and he is only 14. Cleaned house top to bottom, changed my bed, will do DN2 bed tomorrow as he is going home then. Had to go to Mr A again as we have been guzzling milk like billy yo since DN2 been here -making lots of hot cocoa and custard for the crumble.

WM on twice today and I did some ironing in readiness for my return to work on Monday (can't say I am looking forward to it). Nice bit of news was that the certified copies of our wedding certificates from Las Vegas arrived this morning, so it's all official now. Lol. I just need to get round to ordering my wedding photos.

VickyA - your mum has the right approach. She remains in my thoughts.
Crazychik - what a good friend you are. I just hope your friend has the strength to remain strong and go forward not back.
Cranky - what a dreadful way to lose your mum. DV is a dreadful thing. My sister got out of such a relationship years ago and she has gone on to brighter and better things.
EssexHebridean - how is the one night tv free going?

I've not been outside all day - as long as you don't count popping out to the garden shed to get something and out the front to put recycling in the bins - and I've been really cold. So much so that it spurred me on to sit down for two hours and mend all the holes (there were some really big ones and I ended up darning them) in a huge, heavy, chunky, sea-green cardigan that I've stopped wearing because it looked such an unravelling mess. Fortunately, I had a ball of wool more or less the same colour to sew with and, now that it's all mended, it actually looks pretty respectable. It's so heavy that it's really stretched out of shape and has ended up very long and just perfect for wearing in the house during this cold weather.

While I was on a roll I also made a proper draft-excluder for the front door - a bit of an experiment. I took the bubble wrap packing I'd saved from a book delivery last week, rolled it into a long door-width sausage and secured it with sellotape. Then I took an old bath towel that was going to be cut down for floor cloths, trimmed the ends to fit the door and rolled it round the bubble wrap. That made the draft excluder feel heavy. Then I got an old, woven velour scarf of mine that was completely threadbare at both ends, chopped the ends off, re-hemmed them, wrapped it lengthways round the draft-excluder and sewed up the seam along it's length. I tied each end like a cracker with some left over ribbon from Christmas. It works brilliantly and looks very tidy - much better than the improvised 'stuff something under the door' method!

Oh, and I've discovered at supper time that I can bulk out a small amount of potato with parsnips which are not very popular with my children, mash it all up with a bit of butter, milk, grated cheese and seasoning and they don't complain about the parsnip. This will revolutionise my use of veggiebox parsnips from now on!

Thanks for asking CurlyTop - first one was last Tuesday and went very well - just got to wait and see if MrEH remembers the deal this week now! We will have a distraction this week too as there is still quite a bit of decorating to be done before my friend comes to stay in a fortnight - as she was the one who helped us start it about two years ago we really feel it should be done by the time she gets here this time! We have the last holes to drill for the shelves, the whole of one wall to basecoat then paint, shelves and coving to put up, and I have to work out if the curtains my Mum has given us from their bedroom will fit as they are or need alteration.....! We'll be able to do that rather than watch TV this Tuesday evening now! Mr EH will be thrilled! :rotfl:

Would love to be able to say that I am having such a night tonight, but DN2 is here and loves Most Haunted and as it is Live and coming from St Georges Hall, here in Liverpool, he is glued to the screen. Aagh.

I've been giving your tv free thing a thought and it has made me think, that whilst I could take or leave it, I have been watching lately for watchings sake. I am going to try and have the Tuesday as tv free also, as this is the night that DH goes to play badminton and it will be easy for me to do as I tend to watch what he watches most of the time - even the football!! Heaven help me. Thanks for putting your idea up and I hope you wont mind me joining you. Good luck with the spare room. Maybe when you have finished, you could come and do my kitchen and living room. Tee hee

Really cold here so decided not to go out if I could possibly avoid it.

Spent nearly all day sorting out filing cabinet and looking for details on DH's pension payments to reply to a letter I got from student finance for my daughter. Eventually found all twelve pay statements which gave me the information that I needed.

Did two loads of washing and baked some HM rolls. Made DDs some drop scones for a snack and even DH who does not like stuff like that tried one and then had another one!!!

Felt family deserved a treat so made two mushroom,onions, peppers and cheese pizzas to use up stuff in the fridge. Also made a garlic, cheese and onion bread for the first time which seemed very popular.

Spent an hour helping DD by asking her questions on genetics for a test on Monday.

DH has done the dishes and I am so tired I feel like going straight to bed but will probably wake up once I get there.
