OS Daily Saturday 10th Jan 09

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Today 10th January 2009. This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well

Morning. Could not sleep so ended up getting out of bed at 5.30. It's my day off too... bummer.
Weather this morning here is 1c no winds and no rain again. There is a heavy frost, triggered I think by the -4 at bed time.
I hope to get the weather monitor linked to the computer today and that should give me better historical readouts.

Not sure what is on today, we may visit the shops, although neither of us has any money to spend. I managed to get some shoes in the Clarks sale locally, so that was fair enough.
Money saving tea last night, as I photocopied a page from a book that was for sale from the book club thing and then made pork chops with apple and sage. Very nice :D . The chops came from Lidl £1.75 for 4, using leftover apples, and onions with a pot of creme fraich and apple juice, touch of sage, delicious.

I see heating oil prices rose 4p this week. Yet oil on the market is down to it's lowest for some time. Someone is ripping me off ? I hope they come down again as I could use a few litres.

Well folks, have a nice day what ever you plan....

  • Morning all,
rubbish night sleep, tossing and turning, nightmares and weird dreams.

DD woke at 5:45 so not too bad, but I still feel like I haven't been to bed. Work today, work from home so at least I don't have to go anywhere.

Wrote my meal plan and totted up what we need to buy, comes to £22 so it's not too bad, it's the cat food and cat litter that just always adds a £5 - £7...

I made Gnocchi yesterday again, they are just so fab and with the cheap potatoes from Aldi they are also very, very OS. Portion per person including tomato sauce comes to about 45p...

OK, better go and get another cup of coffee!

Good morning N9eav and French Maid - I was up early, too. Don't know why because I was really tired when I went to bed, yet was wide awake at about 3.30. I've just been surfing on here, did a bit of knitting, wrote a letter, ignored the pile of paperwork that needs sorting, wrote a to-do list for the day (get DH to colour my hair before he goes to work, make plum crumble and bread-and-butter pudding for our guests who are arriving tomorrow to stay the night, make some scones because said guests are bringing some genuine clotted cream from Devon with them, prep for the stew I shall make for us all tomorrow - decided on stew because I can leave it cooking while we chat, rather than have to stand over the cooker while they're here, and I still want to run the hoover over and give everything a quick dust. I also have a pile of ironing but that can wait a couple of days.)

Dinner tonight will the spaghetti carbonara we were going to have last night until I decided on something else. I did my food shopping yesterday so it's nice to have full cupboards. I'm wondering whether to write a letter of complaint to the supermarket; I don't want to get anyone into trouble but I was annoyed that the girl on the check-out had got halfway through my trolley load, then took her hanky out and blew her nose quite noisily, then carried on with my shopping! I watched what she touched like a hawk until she'd finished, but it meant wiping everything over with anti-bac gel when I got it home. I didn't know whether to complain there and then. After all, it's FOOD she was touching (MY food!); surely there are guidelines for this sort of thing? I shall write and suggest that they explain the risks and have handwipes handy for the check-out girls to use. The thing is, it's this kind of thing that spreads things like MRSA, colds and flu, and worse, and it could have a bad effect on someone really vulnerable. Please don't tell me I'm being too fussy! It's a great supermarket with lovely staff, too, apart from this incident. Rant over, but I shall definitely write a letter now I've remembered how cross I was at the time.

Anyway, I hope everyone is well and has a good Saturday. It's still pretty cold here but it is supposed to be becoming milder over the weekend, so fingers crossed.

    (((Hugs))) to all in need.

    Morning All!
N9eav Be good to get your weather forecasts again!
Kathy-That sounds disgusting! I'd complain if I were you:eek: My cupboards are full again, as DD and I shared an Asda online order the other day. Went to sainsbugs yesterday, as I was near, and bought cereal cheap. Frosties for £1 and Cherrios for 89p. They wll live on the top of the cupboard till needed.
My new car is due 23rd January!:T Been waiting since October, as I need an automatic. Motability is fab. All I have to do is put petrol in it, everything else is covered. Watch out Hastings!:rotfl:
Didn't have a bad nights sleep, woke a few times, but was up at 6am. Tea drinking at the mo.
Feet are slowly getting better, the steroids are taking their time again. Wrote to work after they wanted me to go to an "Attendance Management Meeting" next week. Told the Head if I was well enough to be attending a meeting, I'd be well enough to work:rotfl: So get stuffed!
New front door goes in next week, no step to fall over then! Then outside stair lift the week after. It will make life soooo much easier. No twelve steps to climb to get in the house, Yah!:T
    Have a good day all!

mioliere. Never really thought about food hygiene at the checkouts. She probably did not wash her hand when she went to the toilet earlier either:eek:
I suppose they could all wear face masks and gloves?

    Morning all :)

Well, like the OP's...I've been up since about 3 am! Must be old age creeping up on me, as I don't seem to need half the sleep I used to do :D and haven't quite got to the 'dozing about in the afternoon' stage yet :D

Had four cuppa's already and an hour or two surfing the MSE boards. I don't really venture much off the OS Board...too many good tips and familiar names...but I have done this morning. There's some worrying stories of redundancies, financial troubles etc....it's just so hard for a lot of people at the moment...my heart goes out to them.

Family all round tomorrow for Sunday roast, so will get the veg done ready today. Got a lovely joint of pork in that I bought before Christmas, so will use that up...and do a load of sausage for the GC...they love them! Might make an apple pie or two...or crumble...haven't decided yet. Have plenty of baking in from Christmas, so will get some of that out too....not much good for my diet though :D

Right, hubby's just gone off to load sugar beet on lorries...and I suppose I better do something....like hoovering! Yeucch!

Hope everyone has a warm and peaceful day :D

Morning all....it's early, its cold and I gotta go out!

Plan for today: I have got to drag all the kids out to the horses in about an hour and half, 3 of them will sit in the car while 1 will come out in the freezing cold with me to muck out BRRRRR. Then we got to come home and clean house. Then I have some work to do oh framing up a clients photo's ready to deliver this afternoon. I must do some more work for the website and get the pictures over to the website guy.

Out again this afternoon to deliver said photos. I;ve got to check fridge and freezer see what we need shopping wise and take myself off the Lidl. Gotto then go bring horses in again and tuck them up in bed for the night while OH makes dinner.

Busy day..phew!! My OS for today will be using vinegar for the house, saving as much water (or ice!) as I can down the yard and being frugal with the horses bedding. Using whats left in the cupboards for dinners.

Have a great day all and I hope to pop in more often:beer:

    morning all

woohoo it's the weekend - i shall of course be frittering mine away with the usual cleaning catch up but there is a party tonight - a friend's 50th but shhhhhhhh ..... it's a surprise ;)

got my first approved foods order last night - this was a bit of a trial and i got a bit exctied and ordered loads of goodies - dd(12) unpacked it and her eyes were nearly popping out of her head - we NEVER buy biscuits LOL. I will order again but will make more of an effort to maximise buying basics and filling up the weight allowance. Everything was very nicely packed and Dan left a message on my mobile about a substitution - well impressed!

Oh M9aev - please - I have enough of a problem with checkout people without worrying about their toilet habits. I do try to use the self service thingies but as my trolley is mostly yellow stickered and it doesn't always go through properly I still have to call the staff and watch as they squish, pummel and toss my dinner

anyhoo have a good day everyone
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

Morning everyone.I think its still pretty cold here bit its still pitch dark and I haven't stuck my head out the window yet!

My little guy did sleep all night in his own bed -hooray! but woke at 6am ready to go- boo!

The boiler decided to play silly b*ggers again this morning so the house was cold- I had to restart it manually AGAIN but at least its working now and the house is warming up.

I am planning on cleaning some of the carpets today as they seem to have really suffered over Xmas break!!

Dh is on Growing Leaders course for church and will be back about 5pm so doing Roast Lamb for dinner.

Other than that need to go and put the BM and do the usual laundry etc etc.

    Have a good day everyone!
  • Morning Guys!

Had a crap night and been up for a while. Hoping to try and get a sleep later when OH & DD go into town. Recorded something last night and no doubt will fall asleep whilst watching it.

DW has been emptied and WM needs to go on with uniform and PE kit. Only 1 load to do then I think it's empty.

OH just cooking an omelette for us to share as we have some eggs, onion, ham and cheddar that need using and I really need to put some weight on. Will have a slice of WM bread and butter and HP with it:D

Still feels quite cold here but temp is 1c, so not too bad. Really need to keep warm today.

Having a chilli later which we were supposed to have last night but none of us were really hungry, so just had pate on toast or cheese and crackers. Must remember to get 2 chickens out the freezer tonight as we have some friends coming around who have 3 children tomorrow. They are good friends and know they will help out and their kids are lovely. Going to serve with goose fat roasties, pig in blankets, yorkies, stuffing balls, cabbage, parsnips, carrots & peas/sweetcorn. OH getting a couple of puddings from Iceland today.

    House clean and tidy.

    Hugs to all.
