Hi Salopman - yes, you're a bit outnumbered here, aren't you? It's great to have men joining us, though, so any more male lurkers - come on in; we may have hormones but we don't bite!

Well, my hair is now back to my 'natural' colour (ahem), thanks to DH putting the colour on for me.

We have the hardest frost here that I have ever seen. Our pond (luckily, there's no fish in it, it's just a sex-den for the local frog and newt population in March) is rock solid; you could drive a truck on it if it was big enough! Ice Road Truckers, here we come!

I've done basic chores but I need to go to the post office; I shall not be tempted to take the car, despite the cold. When I get back I must start baking and food prepping and then, hopefully, I can take the afternoon off to catch up on some sleep - I was one of the early risers on here today.

By the way - I've written my letter of complaint to the supermarket!

Hope you are all managing to keep warm!

  • Ooh, those crumpets look lovely :D I think I might have a go at making some of those. :) Morning, everyone. It's really cold here today - about -4C at the moment and only going to warm up to freezing all day according to the BBC weather pages. I can still feel the cold through my fluffy boot-slippers and DH2B is insisting we don't put the heating on unnecessarily! I'm so proud of him! :D

I feel quite virtuous today. Well, in the sense that I've got a lot done rather than in my self (if that makes sense). Since I woke up with a headache, I've taken my traditional cure of a couple of headache tablets with a can of Pepsi and a few squares of chocolate and am feeling much better. But, in that time I have also done my mealplans until the end of January, written out a small shopping list for when we walk to Mr T's later this morning, organised my recipes (and added some new ones to my repertoire) and have tempted DH2B with mixed grill kebabs (making those single pieces of meat streeeeeetch a bit more :D). Dinner tonight is lasagne, and there'll be enough for 4 portions to go into the freezer. :) I always feel accomplished when I make it.

Otherwise today, I shall try and do some cleaning, and at least get the bathroom done. I really want to crack on with my cross-stitch though, as it's taking me forever and I want to see the finished product. Got to make some more wedding plans, as well, so that we can be all ready without racing around last minute. Have to find shoes, something nice to go on my arms, and headgear yet! At least I have the dress!

(((hugs))) to those that need one and I hope those not feeling too well feel better soon. Here's to something randomly wonderful happening today. :)

    Have a good day, all.

Morning all............(((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Bloomin' cold here this morning -1.5 on the weather station, I have upped the heat slightly the sitting room feel chilly, mind you its not helped by the fact that here is no form of heating in our tiny kitchen which opens into the sitting room......does not help.

Scotch broth for lunch today, use the pressure cooker for i otherwise you break your teeth on the dried peas, they take ages to cook. Going to put carrot onion and leek in it as well............with hm bread it should be good.

Bad night last night OH wa sniffing, tossing and turning, so gave up at 2am and made tea, read for an hour till he had finally dozed off, so only just surfaced.....need to get myself into the shower and some clothes on, doubtless he will want to go for a walk if it brightens up.

Very grey again this morning, there has obviously been a frost, grass is white, but the traffic seems to be moving normally along the road.

O.K. offsky to get showered see y'all later...............

    Morning all!

Don't know what I did but just deleted a long post, darn!

Kathy and Stef, don't want to feed your worries, but don't forget just how many people touch your food, all those with dusty hands in warehouses, on lorries and putting it on shelves! Supermarkets all have strict absence policies, so the poor girl prob had to turn up for work or risk not being paid or sacked!

Emma - well done you on helping your friend, not everyone want to get involved in those kind of situations, and well done on your friend on being so brave, and good luck to her for the future.

Lucylema - I've just made a post on the It's tough NOW thread about stretchy mince, have a look, I've detailed how to get shepherds pie, bolognese, lasagne, chilli and wraps from it! Hope you have a freezer, else you'll be sick of mince by the end of the week lol!

Well it's cold here, but very bright and sunny, which is confusing the animals when they want to go out! OS wise I shall be cooking pasties for lunch, with some mash and veg to fill those tums, and dinner will be something with mince, prob meatballs, as dd3 loves them and I haven't made them for ages! Need to do a mealplan for next week.

Need to have a quick tidy round and do the uniform washing and ironing, and also want to pop out to the shops for various bits, will be doing a round trip taking in several of them for the bargains, need to make a list of each shop's offers!

Have a good day all, hugs where needed xx

    Morning everyone!

Oh to have a cold and frosty morning - it's blowing a hooley up here in the Hebrides! Wind speeds of over 70 mph during the night and now the rain's started too  I've been awake since after 2 am, so beginning to feel a bit slow now as a result.

Emma - wishing your friend all the best, it's not easy in that kind of situation

Made porridge for breakfast which was a good start to the day for DH and me and now working out the PoA for the housework - think I'll change the bed first

Going to make a pork dish in the slow cooker today, so best be cracking on wtih that soon. That and a pan of veg broth that will do our lunches next week is on the cards today.

    Have a good day everyone!
  • No OSing for me today as my kitchen is being ripped out as I type!
Am sat in dining room surrounded by the contents of my kitchen cupboards!
I have my little stock of tea bags, carton of milk and kettle and packs of biscuits and (please!!!!!) the last of the bliddy Xmas cheese as I wont be cooking today and I am not resorting to a takeaway! (watch me eat my words there later as well as a takeaway!):D

    Good morning,

I've had a rough week, with sinusitis and a chest infection, so haven't posted, or done very much in the way of OS. I did spend a fair bit of yesterday catching up with housework. This morning I have sorted out my kitchen cupboards so that I can see what's in there, and I've put a chicken in to roast.

Ds shouted me in the night and was up very early this morning. He was hungry as he didn't see the need to eat his dinner last night. I'd like to think he's learned something, but in reality he's only four, and all he's likely to remember is me moaning that I'm tired and being grumpy.

WS I have read a few toddler books, and they all seem to say that you either have a mover or a talker. My ds didn't walk until 16 months and never cimbed out of his cot, but can talk the hind leg of a donkey. I suspect from your descriptions of Little Bear's exploits that you have a "mover".

VickyA I'm sorry that your mum needs more surgery and chemo. I'm thinking of your family.

Crazychik Good luck to your friend. My mum stayed with her violent husband (not my dad), until the final beating ended in a brain haemorrhage that killed her. I hope your friend stays safe.

    Take care all of you.
  • Good Morning Chums, a very hard frost last night in North Kent.It looks very pretty outside though. My sis-in-law Val is arriving from Bromley this morning ,I hope there's no engineering works on our line as it means she has to get of at Meopham and use the bus link. Last time that happened the bus pulled out empty, just as the train pulled in.Poor lass was stuck in the freezing cold waiting an hour for the next one:mad:
We are having a second mini-Christmas this afternoon as she was at her DD's over Christmas and New Year as was I so we always have a second one in January for just the two of us.
SC is on with a nice garlic and lemon chicken cooking away, and my kitchen smells lovely .She brings the Christmas pud, and I'm just about to make some stuffing and prep some veggies.Wine is chilling in the fridge.
Its very cold today so the heating is going on full blast, we both suffer from arthritis and really feel the cold.
Tomorrow we go to my DD's for dinner with the tribe as she loves to see all my little grandsons. I have been searching the net for some Pilchard recipes but there doesn't seem to be that many .Doesn't anyone use them much nowadays .I seem to have around 5 tins of the things that I've accumulated in the cupboard and I'm hoping to use them up.
Still shopping from my cupboards quite a bit, my freezer never seems to get that empty.I must draw up a revised list and stick on the outside of my freezer.
Have got some nice HM leek and tattie soup for lunch with garlic bread that should warm up both up.
Hope everyone has a good week-end <<hugs>> to those who are feeling down .
    Cheers JackieO

    Good morning guys,

thanks for all your nice words. It's not often that I crack in public these days and even though I am feeling more motivated and stronger as time goes on I am just muddling through most of the time. Thank you for being here though. A big :kisses3: to all of you.

Yesterday was good in the sense that I had some time on my own and I really enjoyed the journey up to Bangor. The fares this week have more than negated my savings on the shopping bill as my online shop was pared down to a third of it's usual cost. I found some yellow stickered pork in Tesco for more than half price so that's tomorrow taken care of (the beef in the freezer can wait until next week). The plus side is that we can do without an online for a week as there is plenty in so only some milk will be needed. :T :T

Plans today are to blitz through the house properly starting with the kids bedrooms   WW3 is currently taking place up there because they have been asked to tidy them up, catch up with the washing as it has taken 3 washes and dries to loose the nappy bits off the clothes. That will mean an ironing evening and also I need to tot in what I have spent yesterday in to my pennies book. Lunch will be scrambled eggs and beans on toast and tea - a nice chicken pie, mash and veggies.

The kids are out for a walk with my sister later and after tea they will get a bath and I have promised to paint DD's nails and do her hair but I expect LO will want his toenails green 'like a dinosaur' before he goes to bed.

Churchie - I am glad the funeral went as well as it could, gentle hugs to you hun. xx

Pen-pin - big hugs to you too, I hope you get your nap and it helps. xx

Beth - how's things? I haven't 'read' you for a couple of days.

Pink - How is tilly doing?

Gentle hugs to VickyA and family and everyone else in need today and  :T :T  to anyone who is celebrating.

    Smoky. xxxxx
